Hendo vs. Lil Nog 1

From mmajunkie.com:
Ultimate Fighting Championship executives today officially announced its Nov. 14 UFC 105 event, which takes place at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

Tickets for the event, which airs via tape delay in North America on Spike TV (and live in the U.K. on ESPN), go on sale this week.

Currently, officially announced fights for the event include Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang and Dan Hardy vs. Dong Hyun Kim.

And from The Sun:
ANTONIO ROGERIO NOGUEIRA is in line to make his Octagon debut against Dan Henderson at UFC 105, SunSport understands.
According to sources close to the fighter, 'Little Nog' -- the twin brother of UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira -- is set to sign a four-fight deal with Dana White's MMA promotion.

And he will be offered a light-heavyweight fight against ex-Pride superstar Dan Henderson in a bout which would top the bill in Manchester.

However, should Nogueira or Henderson turn the fight down, we understand welterweight legend Matt Hughes is being considered as an alternative big name to appear at the MEN Arena on November 14.

Dan Henderson did a seminar and an appearance at a club this past weekend in Hagerstown, Md. From sherdog.com message board member Flokk:
-The DJ played Bisping's entrance song from 100 about 10 minutes before Dan got there.
-Dan didn't get an entrance song, he just pulled up in a white limo and strolled in.
-Dan was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and flip-flops.
-He seemed pretty uncomfortable with the people mobbing him at first but by the time we got up for a second round of pictures he was very relaxed. My friend asked him how he felt about the Bisping KO and he said, "You know how you felt watching it? Well imagine that times a billion." I just told him he was the man and he laughed. On the way out he was sipping a soda next to the exit and I said thanks for the pictures Dan, and he laughed and gave me a thumbs up.
-Don't laugh at me, haha. On a 7 month layoff so running 20 pounds heavier than normal. And I'm 6'3, 260 so the size difference between me and Hendo was crazy (he's definitely not 6'1 like Fightfinder says, *maybe* 5'10), made it very hard to get a good picture.
-Dan's head looks like a concrete slab! And his jaw really is THAT f------ big.
-He was in the area for a seminar of some kind and the bar paid him a (rumored) 7 grand for the 2 hour meet and greet.

LionHeart Fighters ready for battle

Just had a conversation with Chad Dubin, head honcho at LionHeart Fighters, and he got me up-to-date on all of the goings-on there at one of the biggest and best MMA academies in the state.

First of all, unfortunately, Jim Hettes and Lou Armezzani lost their fights last month at Combate Extremo in the Dominican Republic. Hettes was submitted and Armezzani lost by split decision, Dubin said.

"No excuses. They got beat," Dubin said.

Both Hettes and Armezzani will return to action at a King of the Cage event Jan. 17, Dubin said.

LionHeart light-heavyweight Phil Davis and middleweight-turned-welterweight Paul Bradley are in California right now, training for their upcoming fights. They'll stop to train with Brandon Vera in San Diego and then with Dan Henderson in Temecula.

"They're totally pumped about it," Dubin said of the West Coast training tour.

Davis fights at the Palace Fighting Championship on Jan. 22 and Bradley takes on UFC veteran Roan Carneiro on Feb. 6 at a World Cagefighting Alliance event.

In addition, new LionHeart member Shannon Slack will fight for Palace Fighting Championships on Feb. 6, Dubin said.

Best of luck to all the LionHeart Fighters from MMA Explosion.

from ufc.com:
Live From the O2-Dublin - Saturday, January 17, 2009

Las Vegas, NV (USA) - The world's most exciting sport returns to the Emerald Isle as the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization opens up 2009 with the star-powered UFC 93 card at the O2-Dublin in Dublin, Ireland on January 17, 2009.

In the light heavyweight main event, former two-division world champion Dan Henderson will collide with former UFC middleweight king Rich Franklin in three-round war which will set the tone for the 205lbs division in 2009.

Then, 2005 PRIDE® Grand Prix Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua returns to the Octagon™ to throw down with UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman in a rematch MMA fans thought they would never see. The pair last met in Japan in 2006, with the legendary Coleman pulling off a stunning upset by breaking Rua's arm in the first round.

Here's the video of the Rua-Coleman fight in PRIDE and the aftermath. As I remember it, Rua breaks his arm early in the fight when Coleman goes for a take down. Coleman either doesn't realize it or doesn't care and keeps after Rua with the ref trying to intervene.

Chute Boxe members, including Wanderlei Silva, hit the ring, as do members of Hammer House, Coleman's team. Phil Baroni takes down Silva, who ends up getting Coleman's shoe on his throat. Coleman is charged up after the fight but later tries to apologize. Chute Boxe has nothing of it. Silva's so mad, he wants to take on Coleman, Baroni and Rampage Jackson at the same time.

UFC 88 post-mortem

All right, so by now you've probably heard that Rashad Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell. Cold. With one punch. As much as I don't care for Evans' showboating, you have to respect his abilities.

The first question is where does this leave The Iceman? Fighters can come back from devastating knockout losses. Wanderlei Silva did it - he had back-to-back knockout losses, courtesy of Cro Cop and Hendo. Before the fight with Rashad, Chuck talked about making another run at the title, implying that it would be a great way to end his career, but he also talked about fighting for years to come - a little Randy Couture, anyone?

Maybe it's time to get a new trainer. I know Chuck considers John Hackleman family, but something might need to be fixed. Jerod Phillips, who owns Tap or Sleep fightwear, hit the proverbial nail on the head: They finally started figuring Chuck out. He throws looping punches, and he keeps his hands down low. Couture, in their first meeting, got inside and dirty boxed him, evading the looping, yet dangerous bombs that Chuck can unleash.

All fighters make weight for UFC 88

I just watched the live weigh-ins for UFC 88-Breakthrough. All the fighers made weight. Chuck Liddell looked more cut than usual at 204 pounds, although he still had a little of his trademark "beer gut," as some would call it. I prefer to think that's where he gets his power. The Power of the Gut.

Liddell and Rashad Evans had a curt handshake and an intense staredown.

Rich Franklin looked good at jumping up to 205. Jason Lambert, dropping from 205 to 185, looked like he made the right move. And Rousimar Palhares, Dan Henderson's opponent, looked huge and cut. He's short, but has the physique of a bodybuilder.
