Who would pay $86 for a T-shirt?

afflictionfalcon.jpg
That's how much this one costs at Affliction. I like a lot of their styles, and I've given them a lot of support on this blog, but that's just outrageous. Oh, well, guess you gotta sell a lot of T-shirts to afford Fedor.

M-1 talks Fedor, reality show

fedor.jpg

from M-1's Web site about a press conference held today:
A long-term cooperation between M-1 Global, Affliction, Golden Boy promotion and Donald Trump was announced earlier today. Also it was revealed that the "Fighting Fedor" reality-show is going to be produced in cooperation with Affliction and Donald Trump.

M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelstein told at the conference that negotiations with different TV-networks about broadcasting the show are ongoing. 16 heavyweights from all over the world will come to St.Petersburg to participate in the project.

During the show they will train and live in the famous Red Devil FT. Once in a while well-known fighters will visit them to share their skills. Eventually only one fighter will survive and win an opportunity of fighting Fedor Emelianenko in the finals.

Affliction has extended the contract with Fedor. Also Donald Trump plans to come to St.Petersburg: ""I really believe, in its own way, this (show) will be a great success."

Randy says he needs to be elusive to beat Brock

randybrock.jpg

from mmaweekly.com:
It's a typical predicament for Randy Couture. A bigger, younger, stronger athlete awaits him in the cage.

Couture will likely be the betting favorite when the two meet at the MGM Grand Garden arena on Nov. 15 at UFC 91 in Las Vegas - most bookies have learned their lesson by now - but not by much. Lesnar is a 265-pound problem Couture must solve along with another question of how long the UFC heavyweight champ can punch his time-defying ticket.

He is three weeks into his camp and says he's getting back to fighting shape. This week, the big guys come to Xtreme Couture - All-American wrestlers John Juarez and Josh Hendricks, Seth Whittle, Brad Imes, and UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin, fighters as close to Lesnar's size as possible. In sparring, the mammoths will rotate in on Couture in five-minute shifts, mimicking Lesnar's bulldozer style.

"It's gonna suck," Couture said in a video interview with MMAWeekly.com.

Mousasi thinks he's fighting Vitor; Fedor vs. Barnett

mousasi.jpg
Gegard Mousasi with his new DREAM gold and silver

by John Joe O'Regan, Fighters Only:
DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi expects to face Vitor Belfort on Affliction's next MMA show in January.

Speaking to Fighters Only this week, he revealed that the US organisation wants him to fight the Brazilian, while Red Devil team mate Fedor Emelianenko may face Josh Barnett.

"I'm going to train with Fedor in preparation for Affliction in January," he said. "I think it is Fedor against Josh Barnett and they want me to fight Vitor Belfort."

Mousasi is part of the Red Devil International team and he shares a manager with Fedor in the shape of Vadim Finkelstein.

As well as training with Fedor, he will continue to train in his own gym in the Netherlands.

"[I have] some very good friends who each has a specialty - wrestling, judo, jiu jitsu and so on," he explains. "If I need extra training I sometimes to go to other gyms in Holland."

Josh Barnett seems to be a popular name in the Emelianenko household - earlier this week, Aleksander told Fighters Only that he wanted a rematch with the American catch wrestler.

Affliction has yet to reveal a line-up for its January event but Vitor Belfort has told Brazil's Tatame magazine that he has been contacted and offered a fight.

Fedor to be on January Affliction card

fedor_emelianenko.jpg

Mike Chiapetta from nbcsports.com:
Affliction has postponed their planned Oct. 11 show in Las Vegas.

After a heavily promoted event last July drew almost 15,000 fans, the second promotion from the California-based group was to be held at the Thomas & Mack Arena and highlighted by a heavyweight tilt between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett.

Last week, reports surfaced that Affliction was debating a postponement after running into many issues with the show, with the company saying that UFC has put roadblocks in its path.

Affliction COO Michael Cohen told NBCSports.com that the company is expecting to run the show in January, and that they would also make a major announcement in the next two weeks that would "change the dynamics of mixed martials arts. Not just nationally, but globally."

The October event was initially expected to feature a main event with current WAMMA champ Fedor Emelianenko against Arlovski, but the former broke his hand in defeating Tim Sylvia and would not have been ready in time for October, necessitating an opponent switch.

Cohen said that Emelianenko will fight on the new January card, but an opponent has not yet been decided.

The latest on Randy Couture

couture_champ.jpg

from mmajunkie.com:
The long-rumored heavyweight superfight between UFC champion Randy Couture (16-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko (28-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is currently being discussed for an as-yet-unspecified date in January or February of 2009.

Sources inside Couture's Xtreme Couture camp today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the ongoing negotiations between the UFC and both fighters.

The fight is far from a done deal. Many of the same issues that prevented Emelianenko from signing with the UFC during previous negotiations must still be ironed out. But it appears that the UFC and representatives for both Couture and Emelianenko are working towards bringing the two legends together for a Feb. 2 bout.

Additionally, the same sources are reporting that Couture is currently "actively training for a fight."

Couture has remained in shape throughout his self-imposed 12-month layoff, but his workouts are now reportedly being geared towards an apparent upcoming bout.

Adding to previous speculation that Couture's return may be on Nov. 15 at UFC 91 against Brock Lesnar, Xtreme Couture is also reportedly making travel arrangements to bring in several "larger heavyweights" as sparring partners for Couture.

Sources indicate the Emelianenko bout is contingent upon Couture defeating Lesnar in November.

MMA Rated first reported the possibility of Emelianenko as Couture's second opponent after Lesnar. That report also stated that the UFC hopes to make an announcement regarding a new contract with Couture as early as Tuesday.

Randy reportedly negotiating new contract with UFC

Randy Couture caves in Tim Sylvia's face with his fist en route to winning the UFC heavyweight championship.

by Michael Rome from bloodyelbow.com:
I've spoken with a lot of people about Randy Couture in the last day. Things are definitely happening.

First, I can say with 100% certainty that there are current negotiations for Randy Couture to return in November to main event, and that the current proposed opponent is Brock Lesnar. They can't get Fedor, too many issues to work out on short notice, and he has a US-only non compete with Affliction.

This will be a new contract, not a return to the old one. It will likely pay him more and give him more benefits, but it will lock him into the UFC for the long term. In exchange for signing it Zuffa would drop all breach of contract charges.

femelianenko.jpg

By Chris Howie, mmanews.com

Forced out of a WAMMA Heavyweight title fight with Andrei Arlovski that was set for Affliction: Day Of Reckoning on Octocter 11th due to a hand injury, Champion Fedor Emelianenko has had his sights set on a New Year's Eve fight in Japan against an unnamed opponent followed up by a date with the winner of the WAMMA heavyweight elimination bout on the October 11th card between Arlovski and Josh Barnett.

Who's gonna lose first?

Sherdog member "TanMan" started a thread on sherdog.com about MMA's current win streaks:

Fedor Emelianenko (WAMMA heavyweight champion)
26 Fight Win Streak

Paulo Filho (WEC middlewieght champion)
16 Fight Win Streak

Miguel Torres (WEC bantamweight champion)
15 Fight Win Streak

Lyoto Machida (top contender to UFC light heavyweight title)
13 Fight Win Streak

Thiago Silva (top contender to UFC light heavyweight title)
13 Fight Win Streak

Urijah Faber (WEC featherweight champion)
13 Fight Win Streak

Anderson Silva (UFC middleweight champion)
8 Fight Win Streak

TanMan writes: Anyways I have Thiago going down next. IMO Machida has better stand up, ground game, and game planning on his side. If Faber ever moves up I have him also

Ted's Take: TanMan forgot UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans, who is fighting Chuck Liddell at UFC 88 - Breakthrough on Sept. 6. I say Rashad goes down first before anyone else on this list. I guess you could argue that Evans (11-0-1) does have a slight blemish on his record (a draw with Tito Ortiz), but he has yet to be defeated.

Fedor hopes to fight again in January

fedor_emelianenko.jpeg

from Josh Gross, si.com:
Fedor Emelianenko, Mixed Martial Arts' most formidable heavyweight, won't be sidelined long with his hand injury.

"I think definitely by New Year's Eve I'll be ready to go," the 31-year-old Russian told SI.com Sunday.

Emelianenko said the sharp pain and swelling that followed his 36-second destruction of Tim Sylvia on July 19 have begun to subside, but it will be several more weeks before he feels comfortable enough to get back into the gym. In the meantime, Emelianenko (28-1, 1 NC) has returned to Southern California -- the scene of his violent stoppage over two-time UFC heavyweight champion Sylvia.
