So proud of me!
So my little baby Sammy is officially 5 now.
But let's ignore that for a second and get to the really cool part: I made a lion cake! By myself! Freehand! With no lion pan or anything!
I have no artistic ability. None. Zip. I've learned to accept this about myself and can say it without damaging my self-esteem even a tiny bit.
But this thing -- man, was it awesome. I made the body from a regular rectangular-shaped cake and the head from a 9-inch-round cake. Then I cut a tail and four legs from a second 9-inch-round cake and stuck all the pieces together with chocolate frosting.
I even frosted his face white, with a chocolate mane, and used decorative black icing to make eyes, a nose, a mouth and whiskers.
Remember the post about how I haven't paid uber-attention to every detail of little Noah's new life? Did I mention that includes not taking nearly as many pictures or video of him as we did of Sam?
Well, I got this masterpiece on video not once but twice to ensure its loveliness is preserved for future generations of non-artistic Gullis.
And, honestly, the best part was the Sam LOVED it. She oohed and aahed over it, she thanked me about 10 times for it and she's been telling everyone we see in public places about it. Giving her that memory makes me really happy.
Know what she wants next year's cake to look like?
A pteradon (or pteranodon, or pterodactyl, or whatever it's called now).
Good Lord, what have I started??
