I confess

I have something I've been keeping from you.

About a year ago, we signed Sam up with a modeling agency.

I know, it makes me sound snotty and haughty, in a my-kid-is-SO-much-cuter-than-your-kid way. And I'd love to argue that the agency, which was the first one we went to, didn't have to sign her, etc., etc., blah blah. But really, I usually just feel mildly embarrassed when I tell people this.

Sam, however, has no embarrassment. She loves it. She could do this modeling thing all day every day -- provided, of course, that we plan sufficient time for eating, playing with toys and watching "Sponge Bob."

She had her first real gig last Saturday, at a fashion show at the Harrisburg Mall. She was one of 11 "Macy's Kids" and got to walk on the runway and do group and individual modeling.

Because he needs more hobbies, our favorite blogging photographer, Bil Bowden, stopped by and shot about 1,000 pictures of Sam (who, by the way, began the day by introducing his as "my friend Bil" and ended the day by introducing his as "my photographer, Bil").

Here's a couple shots he got of her striking a pose:

She had a blast.

About 15 minutes before the show started, she had a mild attack of nerves, which is the first time I've ever seen her nervous. She reached over to me, clutched my arms and said, "Mom, I just don't think I'm going to go out there on that stage."

I worked to reassure her, and the girls standing on either side of her helped me out by telling her how much she was going to love it and how much fun it was going to be.

And she did love it. In fact, when she got off the stage, I was waiting to walk her around back to get into line again, and she said, "But Mom, I had something I needed to tell the audience!"

That kid of mine has no fear when it comes to being in front of people. She's a ham, pure and simple.

I can't imagine where she gets it from ...

Awwww, Amy! I'm so mad you've been keeping this from us! I love it, and Sam looks adorable. Congrats!

So, do the proceeds of her modeling career go into her college fund? Private colleges are going to be very expensive when she's 18....

She does look very pretty, and you get all these cool pics. I'm bummed I didn't think of it first.

Aim, she's a natural! It's probably a good way for her to exercise her ham-ness (if that's a word). :-)

And she's absolutely adorable! BTW, I knew this was coming after she kept posing for me at Homecoming.

Yes, the proceeds will go to her college fund -- assuming she gets any jobs! The fashion show was a free thing, just an experience-gainer, so we'll see what else comes up ...
