Sam seems to be doing great in first grade.
Computer lab? Loves it.
Reading? Loves it.
New teacher? Loves her.
Recess? Double loves it.
Lunchtime? Eh.
Who knew packing a lunch every day for a kid who eats only a few things anyway could be such a royal pain? I mean, can it possibly be healthy for her to eat peanut butter sandwiches or peanut butter crackers (though they are whole-wheat crackers, just for the record) four times a week?
I'm pretty sure the four sandwiches I packed the first week had a grand total of three bites taken out of them. But she sure did eat the cookies!
And the stuff they serve for lunch? I'm sure it's great for a normal-eating fifth-grader, but ain't no way my Sammy's getting near a double-stuffed taco, much less willingly imbibing it. Ixnay to the chicken cheese steak, the baked penne pasta ("there's sauce on it? ewwwwwwww!") and the burger station, too.
Thank god for pizza every Friday. Although this week, it's French bread pizza, and I'm not sure how that's gonna go over with Her Highness, either.
Thoughts? Anybody else have an exceptionally picky eater who needs lunches packed every day -- and how do you handle it?

Only that I was an exceptionally picky eater who never ever ate the cafeteria food and ate a bologna and cheese sandwich every day until middle school peer pressure forced me to start trying new things. So it may be a while for her...but she won't starve. Does she like fruit? I ate a lot of fruit. But no veggies, thank you.
I have a very picky eater also. I've tried making her buy her lunch (thinking it would be "fun"). And I've also packed on days when I know there is no chance she'll eat anything on the menu. But for some reason, at school she doesn't even eat her favorite things (with the exception of the 2 cookies). I've recently asked her, "What exactly DO you DO while all the other kids are eating? Because obviously, by the amount of food coming back home in your lunchbag, you're doing something other than eating!" Her response, "I dunno."
Oh, and on french bread pizza day, she came home saying, "The pizza was weird. It was like on a roll or something. So I didn't eat it." --Uuuugh!
