On October 23, 2009 5 Tattoo Fightwear sponsored stepped into the cage in front of a packed house at the Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge 3 and came out victorious.
To start the night off John Andel won the title in his weight class by dominating his opponent on the ground for three rounds to win by decision. In the next fight Jeff Runk won a spirited contest showing great sportsmanship and getting a unanimous decision on the judges cards.
Duane Bastress stepped into the cage next looking like a beast and basically had his way with his opponent and winning by ref stoppage in the second round. Knockout of the night came via Tattoo Fightwear sponsored fighter Chad Hoar. After dominating the first two rounds on his feet and the ground Chad saw an opening in the third and hammered his opponent with a devastating right hand to knockout his competition.
Justin "Skiz" Scott, an amazing talent just 20 years of age is making his pro-debut this Friday night at the Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge III. Justin is a member of team M.A.C.E training out of Central Pennsylvania Mixed Martial Arts Academy who along with teammates Chad Strawbridge and Duane Bastress have been dominating MMA events in PA ever since it became legal. MMA MELEE sat down with Justin to congratulate him and discuss the path MMA has led him down.
MMA MELEE- Congratulation on your successful MMA career. When most 20 year olds are out partying and barely even pondering their future, you work a full-time job and now you're turning pro in the most vigorous sport on the planet, how do you manage to stay focused and keep moving forward?
JUSTIN- Staying focused isn't hard for me these days. My first MMA fight was when I was 18, right away I understood the dedication needed to excel in this sport so I started making sacrifices then. I do miss hanging out with my friends but I don't think I'm missing out on life, MMA has helped me grow up faster. I stay focused by accepting any challenges the world throws my way and then I set goals for myself. I enjoy what I do everyday and I have a good team behind me, I wouldn't have it any other way honestly.

I talked with Mark Jovich, owner and matchmaker of the Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge. With two successful events in York Township at Wisehaven Banquet Hall, Jovich moved his end of the year show to a bigger venue, the Lancaster Convention Center. Mark said at this point, things are going well for the Oct. 23 event, ticket sales are brisk, and the card is complete. We've got a lot of local, exciting fighters on the card, so it no doubt will be a great show. Looks like 19 fights, including the return of local pro Biff Walizer. Click here for the Web site and click here for the card.

Go to 1:41 for the shot that leveled Mike Blackwell.
Earlier today, I spoke with George McGinnis, owner of York Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Red Lion, about his brother Brett Myers' win at Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge II, held on Saturday at Wisehaven in York Township.
"He executed," George said of Brett. "He had control of the fight pretty much the entire time. The fight went as planned, we were looking to push the pace on the feet, overwhelm," Blackwell, but also to be ready if the fight hit the ground.
As for what's next for the Nightcrawler, George said he'd been in contact with CPWC II promoter, Mark Jovich, and that Brett was offered a title fight at 155, but because of YMMAA's close relationship with Team Beleza (at Academy of Combative Arts in York), where 155-title holder Jimmy "Shrapnel" Chappell trains, George and Brett turned the fight down.
But, with welterweight champ Justin Scott about to turn pro, that leaves the CPWC welterweight title wide open. George and Brett jumped at the opportunity, and so on Oct. 23, Brett Myers (3-0), will take on Slomsky's MMA Team member Justin Krebs (4-5).
Talked with WKU Warrior Challenge promoter Mark Jovich last night and he had nothing but good things to say about Friday's event in the Poconos at Pocono Manor.
Mark said there were about 700 people in attendence: "Good crowd, plenty of room, not a bad seat in the house," he said. "I was really happy with the way the evetn went."
Mark gave me a few results from the York area fighters: Brett Myers from George McGinnis' York Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Red Lion won in the first round by ref stoppage. Jimmy "Shrapnel" Chappell also won in the first with a submission, follwing a short, but heated stand-up battle with his opponent. And Chad Strawbridge scored a KO early in the first round. Nice job, guys.
I'll have more infortmation as it becomes available.
Just watched Justin "Skiz" Scott vs. Jesse Finch, who fought at the WKU Warrior Challenge in the Poconos on Friday night. Scott, of York, worked an excellent ground game and scored an arm bar victory early in the first round. Scott, who is 7-0 as an amateur, trains at MACE in Red Lion.
A new MMA social networking site, MMA Melee (based in Scranton, by the way) has some of the fights from last night's WKU Warrior Challenge up. Click here to see them. And join the site while you're at it, bro!
First, in the main event, TOS-sponsored welterweight fighter Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman didn't get to fight. Apparently, Charlie's opponent, Marcus Ajian, failed his pre-fight physical, Jerod said.
Former York resident and Scranton native son Lou Armezzani, of LionHeart Fighters, won in a matter of seconds against York's Anthony Dick, of MACE in Red Lion.
York area fighters Duane Bastress, Jay Haas, and Justin Scott all won their fights decisively in the first round, Jerod said.
