Yesterday, I made a post on Charlie Brenneman fighting for the VFL's Broad Avenue Brawlers on Oct. 11 in Altoona. Also featured on the poster is former NFL player-turned MMA fighter (and Johnstown, Pa. native) Carlton Haselrig. Haselrig, at 3-2, has fought for the UCFC in Pittsburgh and Iron Will Fighting in Johnstown this year. But, according to sherdog.com, he has to sit out 150 days for missing a fight on Friday:

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Carlton Haselrig, a former Pro Bowl offensive lineman with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was suspended for 150 days by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board after he failed to show up for his Ring of Combat 26 bout with Gian Villante on Friday at the Tropicana Resort and Casino.

According to the NJSACB's Nick Lembo, Haselrig was given a Sept. 9 deadline by which to submit his medical paperwork for the fight. The deadline passed without contact from the 43-year-old or his representatives. Villante went on to knock out Rob Wince, a late replacement, with a head kick 1:25 into the second round.

Just got these off mixedmartialarts.com:

Pro fights:
John Curtis won by UD over J.A. Dudley
Marc Stevens won by RNC at 1:31 of the first round over Al Buck
Elijah Garshnick won by UD over James Frier
Shannon Slack won by UD over Noe Quintanilla
George Sheppard won by UD over Bryan Danner

Amateur fights:
Tyler Walker won by UD over Matt Zupon
Jeremy Chitwood won by UD over Kevin Myers
Michael Mucitelli won by RNC at :51 of the second round over Daniel Hornbake.

I don't know that I've ever seen a card with so many unanimous decisions. Then the other two are rear-naked chokes. Also, not sure what happened to the main event, a light-heavyweight title fight between Rob "The Bullrider" Wince and Ryan "The Hunter" Lopez.

Is Pittsburgh is the birthplace of modern MMA?

|

Godfather MMA says so. This is an interesting mini-doc about some matches that took place in Pittsburgh in the late 1970s. Some of it looks like a tough-man competition, but there are some amateur wrestling moves, some karate and a few Muay Thai knees thrown in too.

LionHeart Fighter Dave Sachs will be travelling to Worcester, MA to compete in the Wartown Beatdown 3 in Worcester, MA. Dave will be putting his 5-1 record on the line against tough lightweight Chris Foster who also holds a 5-1 Record. Sachs vs. Foster will headline the fight card as the main event of the evening.

The "Fightshark" returns to Pittsburgh

|

Pittsburgh native and former LionHeart Fighters trainer Mark "Fightshark" Miller was back in his hometown for the Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge event and took a couple photos. Mark's still living out in LA, planning his comeback fight, which might occur in the fall.

UCFC video highlights

|

This video was sent to me by Chad Dubin at LionHeart. Here's the lowdown on LH's fighters: "Phil Davis improved his unbeaten professional record to 4-0 with another 1st round TKO over David Baggett. In his first four professional fights, Phil has gone into the second round only once.

Paul Bradley got back to his winning ways to improve his record to 11-1 with a dominating performance over Leonardo Pecanha. Paul won another stand up war by unanimous decision."

UCFC Rumble on the Rivers results?

|

Still trying to find results from last night's UCFC "Rumble on the Rivers" event that went down in Pittsburgh and featured LionHeart Fighters Phil Davis and Paul Bradley (word was David Sachs did not fight) plus veterans like Rich Clementi and Cole Miller, not to mention hot female prospect - and new LionHeart Fighter Meghan Wright. I'll let you know when I find out something.

Cage of Chaos looking for a heavyweight fighter

|

Right across the border from Pittsburgh, in St. Calirsville, Ohio - a state where MMA's been legal for a while - Dave Klick has been putting on great shows under his Cage of Chaos banner.

Jerod Phillips of Tap or Sleep Fightwear tells me Dave is looking for a heavyweight fighter for his July 3 event - "Stacked" - to take on a 1-0 heavyweight. So, if you're game, here's Dave's information:

Wright looks to make big impact in Pa. and beyond

|

meghan_wright.jpg

Mixed martial arts has been legal in Pennsylvania for a little over two months and in that time, there have been several events, but the state has yet to see two female fighters step into the cage.

Two amateur fights booked for the WKU Warrior Challenge event on June 26, appear to be the first overall, but probably the first high-profile women's fight will be the next night, June 27, when LionHeart Fighters' Meghan "The Babe" Wright takes on Angela Magana at Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge's Rumble on the Rivers in Pittsburgh.

It may be too late to get to this event, but it's interesting to see what's going on after York Mixed Martial Arts Academy's George McGinnis did his thing there. Sounds to me like they're filming some sort of fight scene and need a big crowd.
