Paul Bradley Improves to 12-1 with Win at Strikeforce

|

Email from LionHeart management, about Bradley, who used to train and live in State College:
Paul Bradley (12-1) showcased his impressive stand up and well rounded fight game this past Friday night at the Strikeforce Challenger Fights in Tulsa, Oklahoma by dominating Levi Avera (12-5). Bradley, who improved his record to 12-1, won by a unanimous decision over Avera with all 3 judges scoring the fight 30-27.

"I was pleased with the win Friday night and felt like I was able to dominate the fight no matter where it went. I am going to go back to the gym Monday and continue training full time to move closer to a Strikeforce title. Fighting in a great organization like Strikeforce was awesome and it feels great to be a part of such an impressive fight league. I am looking forward to fighting for them as soon as possible."

We would like to thank the sponsors listed in the column on the left that have generously helped Paul during his training camp.

And special thanks to Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts and Greg Nelson for helping Paul get ready for this fight.

Thanks to mmajunkie.com for the play-by-play:

LEVI AVERA VS. PAUL BRADLEY

Round 1 - Quick touch of gloves. Bradley scores a quick jab, then shucks off Avera's advance, tossing him to the side and falling into top position. Avera settles into half-guard underneath, and he looks to use his long legs to attack. Avera gains full guard as Bradley lands a few shots from top position. Avera ties up the arms, and Bradley tries to posture up. Bradley pulls his left leg through to half-mount. Avera tries to look to his right for a potential kimura, but instead settles for establishing full guard. Two minutes remain in the round. Bradley delivers a few shots to the ribs. Slow action, and the referee brings it back to the feet. Avera fakes a right kick and lands a left kick to the body. Avera grabs a single leg, but he has to let it go. Bradley works in a few quick hands, and Avera tries to answer. Bradley shoots in and powers him to the floor. Bradley drags his opponent to the cage as time expires, and he secures the opening round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.

Paul Bradley signs with Strikeforce

|

Bradley vs. Dante Rivera. Fast-forward to 2:10 for the start of this fight, which is done in about 30 seconds.

LionHeart Professional Management & Promotions is proud to announce that Paul Bradley has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce, one of the top MMA organizations in the world. Bradley will make his Strikeforce debut on Sept. 25th in Tulsa, OK.

Ted: Good to see things going well for Bradley, who used to train in State College at LionHeart Fighters. He's now with Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts Academy, but is still represented by LionHeart's Chad Dubin. Since his short UFC Ultimate Fighter 7 stint, Bradley's been working his way back up the ladder. Watch this guy - he could be a major force at 170.

LHLOGO2.jpg

From Chad Dubin, LionHeart owner:
Over this last year we have had a few of our fighters sustain injuries that could have had a serious effect on the development of their careers. About 9 months ago I was introduced to a group of Orthopedic Surgeons based out of PA that specialize in working on elite athletes that participate in wrestling, football and now MMA.

I can honestly say that finding this Orthopedic Group was one of the best things to happen to our organization since our inception.

LH's J.C. Cuffee to fight tonight at Onslaught

osf.jpg

When I was checking out the Onslaught Fights Web site for the Hanover guys, I noticed that newly-signed LionHeart Fighters fighter J.C. Cuffee was also on the card. Cuffee, who goes by the nickname "Concrete," is 1-0 as a welterweight pro and is fighting Nate Grebb, who is 1-1 and fights out of Maryland BJJ Academy.

UCFC video highlights

|

This video was sent to me by Chad Dubin at LionHeart. Here's the lowdown on LH's fighters: "Phil Davis improved his unbeaten professional record to 4-0 with another 1st round TKO over David Baggett. In his first four professional fights, Phil has gone into the second round only once.

Paul Bradley got back to his winning ways to improve his record to 11-1 with a dominating performance over Leonardo Pecanha. Paul won another stand up war by unanimous decision."

Myers, Chappell and Strawbridge win big in the Poconos

|

Talked with WKU Warrior Challenge promoter Mark Jovich last night and he had nothing but good things to say about Friday's event in the Poconos at Pocono Manor.

Mark said there were about 700 people in attendence: "Good crowd, plenty of room, not a bad seat in the house," he said. "I was really happy with the way the evetn went."

Mark gave me a few results from the York area fighters: Brett Myers from George McGinnis' York Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Red Lion won in the first round by ref stoppage. Jimmy "Shrapnel" Chappell also won in the first with a submission, follwing a short, but heated stand-up battle with his opponent. And Chad Strawbridge scored a KO early in the first round. Nice job, guys.

I'll have more infortmation as it becomes available.

Scott subs Finch at WKU Warrior Challenge

|

Just watched Justin "Skiz" Scott vs. Jesse Finch, who fought at the WKU Warrior Challenge in the Poconos on Friday night. Scott, of York, worked an excellent ground game and scored an arm bar victory early in the first round. Scott, who is 7-0 as an amateur, trains at MACE in Red Lion.

See the video here at MMA Melee. Thanks to Joe Piazza for uploading the video.

WKU Warrior Challenge fights on MMA Melee

A new MMA social networking site, MMA Melee (based in Scranton, by the way) has some of the fights from last night's WKU Warrior Challenge up. Click here to see them. And join the site while you're at it, bro!

Local fighters win big in the Poconos

|

Just talked with Jerod Phillips of Hanover-based MMA clothing company, Tap or Sleep Fightwear. He gave me some of the winners from last night's WKU Warrior Challenge in the Poconos.

First, in the main event, TOS-sponsored welterweight fighter Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman didn't get to fight. Apparently, Charlie's opponent, Marcus Ajian, failed his pre-fight physical, Jerod said.

Former York resident and Scranton native son Lou Armezzani, of LionHeart Fighters, won in a matter of seconds against York's Anthony Dick, of MACE in Red Lion.

York area fighters Duane Bastress, Jay Haas, and Justin Scott all won their fights decisively in the first round, Jerod said.

Congrats guys from MMA Explosion.

Wright looks to make big impact in Pa. and beyond

|

meghan_wright.jpg

Mixed martial arts has been legal in Pennsylvania for a little over two months and in that time, there have been several events, but the state has yet to see two female fighters step into the cage.

Two amateur fights booked for the WKU Warrior Challenge event on June 26, appear to be the first overall, but probably the first high-profile women's fight will be the next night, June 27, when LionHeart Fighters' Meghan "The Babe" Wright takes on Angela Magana at Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge's Rumble on the Rivers in Pittsburgh.
