UFC 106 gifs: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2

|

I've been hunting around, but for some reason, I can't find any gifs that I can copy of Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz. Found gifs of the other fights, which you can see below. But, if you want to see a good shot of Forrest front-kicking Tito's face and his mouthpiece flying out, click here to get to Sherdog's forums. Page down nearly all the way and you'll see it.

UFC 106: Tito weighed 251 just before the fight?

|

Just found this video, not sure what to make of it. It makes it seem like he made weight for his light-heavyweight bout with Forrest Griffin, then proceeded to slam the food and gain and gain a truckload of poundage. We know fighters cut weight and then gain some back before their fights, but I've never heard of this much. Tito could just be messin around, knowing what a psychological assassin he can be. You decide.

Battle of the Salutes: Waynesburg, Pa.'s Koscheck vs. Johnson

Watch the first part of this video: they both like to salute after they win, so loser has to agree never to do the salute again ... right? or is that just stupid?

From DREAM, to WEC, to UFC, this one's got it all.

titoforrest.jpg

from mmajunkie.com:
Maybe we can finally stop with the running jokes.

With Mark Coleman forced to bow out of a UFC 106 clash with Tito Ortiz (15-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC) due to an injury suffered in training, Forrest Griffin (16-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC) has stepped up to fill the vacant role.

Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the matchup, which will serve as the co-feature of "UFC 106: Lesnar vs. Carwin" on Nov. 21 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The UFC has since officially announced the contest.

I posted a poster somebody designed weeks back, but I guess the UFC didn't like it and wanted to get Coleman/Tito in there.

'Lightning' strikes: Murray movie coming

|

murraypic.jpg

from ESPN's Web site:
Movie night in Lee Murray's Moroccan prison is destined to be something special. According to Variety and IFilm.com, Murray's $86 million Tonbridge heist will be developed into a film by director Darren Aronofsky (creator of the pretty good "The Wrestler," the depressing "Requiem for a Dream" and the toad-licking "Fountainhead"). Writer Kerry Williamson will provide the script, based on Jon L. Wertheim's feature in a 2008 issue of Sports Illustrated. Release date TBD.

Murray makes for a better mythological figure than he did a fighter, a fact filmmakers would be wise to consider when dealing with the heist itself. If it's yet another robbery/lam movie, my enthusiasm atrophies. If we get to see Channing Tatum with a dye job play Tito Ortiz -- an alleged victim of Murray's in a street brawl -- then I'll get on Fandango right now.

Ted - Here's my story on Murray, "From Contender to Just Con" that originally ran jan. 16, 2008.

A light-heavyweight bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Luis Cane (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will take place at UFC 106.

Sherdog first reported that verbal agreements are in place. Sources close to the negotiations confirmed the news with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) and said the fight was discussed as a possibility as early as this past weekend, though bout agreements have not been signed.

Hell freezes over: Tito back in the UFC

|

OrtizWhiteUFC61weigh.jpg
from mmaweekly.com:
Could it be? On the same day that Tiger Woods missed the cut for only the second time in his professional golfing career, it appears that hell may just have frozen over.

Apparently, the longstanding feud between former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz and UFC president Dana White is over.

Yes, over.

At least according to their Twitter exchange on Friday afternoon.

"Yeah, me and (Dana White) made up. I'm expecting to be inside the Octagon again soon," Ortiz posted on his Twitter account.

Minutes later, White confirmed Ortiz' comments, posting on his own Twitter account, "Yes, Tito and I made up."

frank_shamrock.jpg

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman reviews what
many regard as the greatest fight in UFC history, the showdown between
Frank Shamrock and Tito Ortiz at UFC 22, held September 24, 1999, at
the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

We spoke about this fight with the man who won that fight with a come-
from-behind, fourth-round TKO, the mixed martial arts legend himself,
Frank Shamrock (http://frankshamrock.com).

Not surprisingly, the current owners of the UFC have been trying to
rewrite history by staging an online poll online poll (http://
www.spike.com/ufc-100/) for fans to choose the best fights ever in
UFC. Along with Spike TV, they presented a list of 181 UFC fights from
which to choose. Absent from that long list was the Frank Shamrock-
Tito Ortiz fight at UFC 22, and any fights involving Frank Shamrock,
even though true historians and honest commentators of mixed martial
arts regarded Frank Shamrock as the top mixed martial arts fighter in
the world in the decade of the 1990s.

To set the record straight, and to counter the propaganda of those who
want to keep their fans ignorant, simple-minded, and obedient, we
spoke at length with Frank Shamrock about this fight itself, why it
was so important and significant, and how it was received before the
present bunch bought UFC. We also discussed the possibility of a long-
awaited rematch between Frank Shamrock and Tito Ortiz.

A video of this fight might still be found by searching for it online.
