In that respect, it will be separated from counterpart statues in downtown York observing World War II and Korean War vets.

But the Vietnam statue will have a major asset in common with its counterparts... .

Dallastown is known for Lyndon B. Johnson's visit in 1966. It was boyhood home of famed actor Cameron Mitchell.

That's where noted sculptor Lorann Jacobs has her studio.

And it was a stop along road from York to Peach Bottom, accommodated rumbling trolley cars and received a spur of the Ma & Pa Railroad.

And it was founded, in part, on the strong hands of basket weavers. But more on that in a second... .

Raising funds for a $300,000 York County Vietnam Memorial needs a boost from somewhere.

About half of the funds are raised for the Lorann Jacobs-designed monument set for the Carlisle Avenue side of the York Expo Center.

Similar Jacobs' monuments are in place for World War II (on Continental Square) and the Korean War (near rail trail on West Market Street).

So it's possible to build such deserved markers... .

Lorann Jacobs works on a clay model, part of the Brooks Robinson statue she is sculpting for the plaza named after the former York White Roses and Baltimore O's star outside Sovereign Bank Stadium in York.

Sculptor Lorann Jacobs had to check some facts before her work on the Brooks Robinson statue, to be unveiled this summer at York's new baseball stadium.

She tried to verify Robinson's number when he played for the York White Roses in 1955.

Even Brooks couldn't remember his number. (An old photograph with No. 36 written on it suggests that might have been his number.)

She went with the famous No. 5 he wore as an Oriole, and the number he donned in both the White Roses' and Revs' jerseys that he wore in festivities before the Revs home opener Friday night... .

Dick Boyd's autobiography, like other such works, is useful in supplying stories and behind-the-scenes glimpses not found elsewhere.

"The Bridge tells the story of the "Workers of York" statue at York's Agricultural and Industrial Museum.

As he relates it:

The York County Heritage Trust museum did not tell the story of worker contributions to York's industrial might.
