On the York County history trail ...

In a visit near the Springettsbury Township site earlier this year, the green field with a rise to its rear just sparkled.

But the site features another point of interest. I stood near the Schultz house, a multi-story structure that is one of the oldest in York County and certain to be part of any park if preservationists prevail versus the developer.

Roy Rogers took York County stage, but not alone

Shorty Fincher's Valley View Park played host to the likes of Hank Williams Jr. and Sr., Porter Waggoner, the Osmond Brothers, Kitty Wells and the Harmonica Cats.

Some performers who traveled to the eastern York County venue were in their early stages of stardom.

But Roy Rogers performed during the Hellam Township park's heyday in the 1950s when he also was a top box office star.

Rogers did not perform alone.

His horse, Trigger, joined him on the eastern York County stage... .

Valley View Park near Yorkana was the storied venue for the likes of Roy Acuff, Hank Williams Sr. and Tex Ritter to perform some years ago.

The eastern York County concert location, now covered with housing, is highlighted in a small exhibit at the York County Heritage Trust, 250 E. Market St.

Roy Rogers is one of the performers displayed in the exhibit.

But the most famous performer to grace the stage there was Elvis Presley, who had just performed on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1956... .
