Five weekend highlights. (Thank goodness for selective memory.)
Had a mini "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" marathon. (Thank you YouTube.)

Tried Thai food from Pho Bistro in York. (Menu added to my take-out collection.)

Haunted the White Rose and a friend's party on Halloween. (Check in Tuesday for promised pics of FlipSide's costume.)

Saw "This Is It," the No. 1 movie. (Those moves. That voice. Miss you M.J.)

Watched the Yanks beat the Phils...again. (I missed "Mad Men" for that?)

Five weekend highlights. (Thank goodness for selective memory.)

Watched "To Have and Have Not." (No actors today can hold a candle to Humphrey Bogart.)

Bought coffee and cream-colored gloves at Central Market House. (Things that don't mix.)

Headed to Bistro 19 and White Rose for drinks. (Cosmopolitans are the perfect compliment for college football.)

Picked pumpkins and bought seasonal treats at local farms. (You've heard of apple butter, but pumpkin butter is better!)

Watched the last baseball game played at the house that Puckett built. (End of an era.)

1. Headed to the White Rose to drown my sorrows about the Harp.
2. Visited my old stomping grounds. (i.e. State College and Bellefonte).
3. Watched the tragic ending of the British Open.
4. Watched the tragic ending of the second season of "The Wire."
5. Made my first batch of pasta salad this summer. (It tastes best with ice cream for dessert.) (Photos: HBO; AP)

bet.jpeg 1. Went to the Revs game/ Battle of the Bands Friday. (Read the live twitter feed.)

2. Didn't get tickets to this concert. (Summer bummer)

3. Saw an old classic ("The Philadelphia Story") and a new classic ("Empire Records").

4. Spent more time hanging out at the White Rose. (It might be habit forming.)

5. Caught a little bit of the BET Awards/Michael Jackson tribute. (Click here for more.)

The King of pop is dead and now so is the King of OxiClean. R.I.P. Billy Mays. The infomercial world won't be the same without his booming voice and immaculate beard.

1. Finally saw "The Hangover." Zach Galifianakis has arrived. (The photo montage at the end of the movie is priceless and probably why it's still No. 1.)
2. Rearranged some furniture. (Relived the couch scene from "Friends," like, three times.)
3. Took advantage of the new outdoor seating at White Rose (until a summer shower rained on my parade).
4. Got my tan on at Lake Marburg. (Nothing like the sight of some water to cure my "Landlocked Blues.")
5. Read this piece about the newly liberated American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.

1. Tried to see "The Hangover" twice, but it was sold out. (I hate hangovers. I "Blame It" on the alcohol like Jamie Foxx and Ron Howard.)
2. Visited the new bar at the White Rose. (Nice wood accents, but needs more outside seating.)
3. Headed to Hanover to spend an evening away from the street rod hustle. (York needs more patios with twinkle lights like KClinger's.)
4. Hiked around Lake Redman and Lake Williams. (I was bitten by the nature bug and other insects.)
5. Dined at Bistro 19. (I loved MB & Company's ambiance, but the Bistro has huge salads and free fudge samples.)

1. Attended the premiere party for "Parks and Recreation." (The White Rose was packed. I guess that bodes well for "The Office" offspring.)
2. Watched Martin Scorsese's 1993 masterpiece "The Age of Innocence." (Daniel Day Lewis in Seersucker. Enough said.)
3. Watched the Masters. (I'm still not sure if anyone really wanted to win.)
4. Discovered Fancast, aka the new Hulu. (Began to question why I have a cable subscription.)
5. Ate too much candy. (At least I didn't do this stuff to my Easter treats.)

Come back!

Thursday, I headed to the White Rose Bar & Grill with some friends to celebrate an unidentified event that required dinner and drinks.

I was bummed to learn that Tim Warfield will no longer be playing his monthly gigs there. (It was technically my party. I didn't cry, but I wanted to.)

The bartender helped ease the pain by making me a special "experiment." It was fruity, delicious and, therefore, deadly. I only survived a few sips.

By early Friday morning, I was feeling fine. Then, I read this little piece of news about the White Rose. Is nothing sacred?

Fedoras optional but recommended

The smooth sounds of Tim Warfield got me ready for the weekend Thursday night at White Rose. I was happy to hear some holiday tunes in the setlist. I was also thrilled that the bar put in more booths since the last time I was there. I'm a fan of the high-backed, red velvet-lined seating. It makes for a cozy place to sip a cocktail while wearing a black fedora (or so I've heard).

Death Cab plays Radio City

This weekend was epic, but I'll try to squeeze it all into one entry.
Friday, I had my heart set on seeing "Route 30," and was bummed when I got to the Strand and heard it was sold out. Instead, I caught the end of Blind Joe Death's set at the White Rose. (I found out later that "Route 30" is back in York by popular demand Nov. 1 and 2. Score!)

Rihanna makes rain look good.

After a week of writing up a storm about the York Fair Breaking Benjamin and ZZ Top concerts, I was looking forward to a chill weekend. (Excuse all the shameless plugs.)

With another dreary day on Friday, I got my wish. I grabbing some grilled cheese at Cobblestones, splashed around in some puddles and went to see the new Coen Brothers comedy "Burn After Reading."

Gold medal for fresh Olympic fashion

Thursday night, I kept it classy with martinis and jazz music provided by saxophonist Tim Warfield at White Rose Bar & Grill. I should have worn wing tips and a fedora.

Friday, I went back to the Jersey Shore. It wouldn't be August without a trip to Avalon. I arrived in time to catch some of the opening ceremonies of the 2008 summer Olympics, and event that made me feel anything but confident about my knowledge of world countries. Team USA looked dapper in Ralph Lauren-designed blazers and newsboy caps.

img-thing.jpegBringing hot pink back.
After watching retro classic "Pretty in Pink" Thursday night, I decided to continue the theme at my pre-wedding manicure Friday. Hot pink is so hot right now.
Armed with neon nails and a dress recycled from a college formal, I was ready to close out Wedding Bonanza 2008.

Country Time = crunk times

The long weekend led to massive amounts of fliff.
Friday night, I ventured out to Cobblestones to watch the Phillies game. I almost choked on my beer when Astros pitcher Jose Valverde got nailed in the head with a ball. Luckily, he was fine.
Saturday, I did a mini bar tour and hit up The WaterWay Bar and Grill, White Rose Bar & Grill and Harp & Fiddle.

I missed "Fliff Friday" festivities in York since I had to head back east for the night. I did have my first Rock Band experience. I missed my chance to sing "Maps" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs due to a lingering cold, though.
I was drawn back to York Saturday to continue the tradition of drinks and '80s videos at White Rose Bar & Grill. I was barely able to refrain from making a fool out of myself and busting out into The Electric Slide.
In the rest of the world, Little Ivory Blues Band won Penn State York's Blue and White Society's Battle of Bands Saturday night. Cate Blanchett gave birth to a son and Ashlee Simpson could be pregnant.

Weekend roundup

I attended my first York St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday. It was a great time, even though a Yankee fan in my group got into a verbal altercation with the Baltimore Oriole mascot. I discovered the beauty of music videos from the '80s on a giant projection screen at White Rose Bar and Grill later Saturday night and the glory of Denny's early Sunday morning.
Sunday was my movie day, rounded out with a classic ("His Girl Friday" on TCM), a comedy ("I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With" at the Strand) and a documentary ("Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus").
In the rest of the world, Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! took over the weekend box office, Halle Berry had a baby girl and Paris Hilton was given her own MTV show. That's not hot.
