What inspires you to live a healthier life?

Is it a fitness instructor or class that you can’t get enough of? Or a workout partner who won’t let you quit?

Maybe it’s a beautiful trail that lures you on a hike or a place to get a great-tasting, nutritious meal.

Fitness Fave, a new ongoing wellness feature, will showcase your favorite people, places and things in York County that motivate you to live a healthier life.

We’re asking readers for nominations. In 100 words or fewer, share who or what inspires you and why. Email recommendations to lzaleski@ydr.com.

  1. Barry Ness says:

My wife Denise. She’s gone thru 3 cancer operations, a back operation, GBS. So quitting smoking (40 yrs.) and doing a few morning “laps” at the Mall is not too much for me to do. Ya think?

  2. I would like to nominate my Zumba Toning instructor, Shannon Godfrey. She teaches Monday nights at the Christ United Methodist Church in Jacobus. Even though she is suffering with complications from Lupus, she still teaches 3 to 4 times a week- Belly dancing and also Zumba Sentao. She makes the classes interesting with her many types of music and choreography. She also supports other instructors and their Zumbathons while raising a family too.

I would like to nominate Sara Day from Stroller Strides. Sara’s classes are not only good for your physical well being, but your mental/emotional well being as well. She is inspiring.

  4. Amy Mattie says:

I would like to nominate Sara Day from Stroller Strides York. Stroller Strides has been an amazing experience for me as a new mom searching for opportunities to exercise in an environment where my baby could also be involved. The classes are not only great for my physical well being, but they are also opportunities where I can connect with other moms and their children. My son loves going to class, riding in his stroller and playing with the Stroller Strides babies after class. Sara has made the classes challenging, fun and inspiring and she truly cares about each mom and baby in deeper ways that go beyond the fitness classes.

  5. Alex Webster says:

I would like to nominate Cathy Ankeny who owns and runs Thunder Fitness. Cathy was my personal trainer during the 2012 summer year. With her help I was able to lose over 30 pounds. Due to her outstanding devotion and motivation, the weight she helped me lose allowed me to attend The Citadel in South Carolina.
