The York County Senior Games began in 2002 as a one-day program featuring approximately 20 events. It now extends for six days and offers participants the chance to test their skills in 47 events.

The goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and fitness for York County men and women aged 50 and older. Registration is now open for this year’s games, which will take place June 17 to 22. Events will include the third year of the triathlon, as well as perennial favorites such as bowling, bocce, mini golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, throws, basketball hot shots, poker and Wii bowling. A new event this year is Wii Archery.

There is a $10 registration fee for an unlimited number of events if registration is completed by May 31. The fee is $15 for all registrations postmarked after May 31. Registrations should be received as early as possible because of limited openings in some events. The registration fee is non-refundable. There are additional fees, payable at the event site, for some events.

Registration booklets are available at many locations throughout the county or can be obtained by contacting the York County Area Agency on Aging at (717) 771-9001 or 1 (800) 632-9073. Registration forms are also available at www.ycaaa.org on the ‘Forms and Documents’ page.

Volunteers are also sought to help support the games. To learn more about volunteer opportunities call (717) 771-9001 or email aging@yorkcountypa.gov.

New this year is the Information and Wellness Fair, which will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 17, in the Central York High School Cafeteria. Community businesses, organizations, and health care providers will be offering information, health screenings, door prizes and more. Stop by and get information for yourself or a loved one who may need assistance. This free event is open to the general public.

The Closing Celebration will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at the Central York High School Cafeteria. This event will celebrate the week of activities, recognize medal winners (including the triathlon and banner contest winners) and be a special time of sharing. Participants and their families are invited to enjoy some ice cream and music. Picture memories will be shared during this special celebration.

The Senior Games are organized by the York County Area Agency on Aging in conjunction with the Senior Games Planning Committee, which is made up of community and business volunteers.
