York County Buy Fresh Buy Local’s Summer Scavenger Hunt challenged people to hit the pavement and visit at least eight of 32 locals farms and businesses to discover homegrown goodness.

To conclude the game and to celebrate, BFBL will host a Scavenger Hunt Wrap-Up Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at John Wright Restaurant in Wrightsville. During the event, guests may turn in their maps and sample some fresh, local food. The event also marks National Farmers Market Week.

Scavenger hunt participants have a chance to win prizes, such as a wine tour from Allegro Winery, a Community Supported Agriculture bag from Horn Farm Center and gift cards, among others.

Chairwoman Dru Peters said people don’t have to go far to find farm-fresh products, from fruits to vegetables to dairy to honey. BFBL has more than 55 partners in the area.

“It’s all right here in York County,” she said in a news release. “People are becoming more conscious of how far our food travels and who grows it where.”

Peters said BFBL aims to connect schools with agriculture and chefs with growers.

“The local food movement is not a trend but a return to our roots,” she said. “We are a proud and active part of that change.”
