We’ve all been there: You fill your weekdays with fresh veggies and exercise sessions, only to spend your weekend eating fried food while sitting on the couch watching episode after episode of The Walking Dead.
Sticking to healthy habits seems a lot more difficult on Saturday and Sunday, doesn’t it?
Not surprisingly, new research shows that people tend to think about their health more at the beginning of the week than at the end. The study, which was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, analyzed weekly patterns in health-related Google searches.
Researchers found that searches for health topics were 30 percent more frequent at the beginning of the week. The day with the lowest number of health-related Google inquiries? Saturday.

1. Extend your weekend workout.
If you rush to squeeze in your sweat sessions during a busy workweek, the weekends are a perfect opportunity to enjoy a longer workout. Add fifteen minutes of strength training to your regular thirty minutes of cardio, or take that hour-long spinning class you usually don’t have time for.
2. Maintain your water consumption.
It’s one thing to guzzle water Monday through Friday while sitting at your desk at work; it’s another thing to consume those eight glasses a day while running errands and hanging out with friends and family on the weekend.

3. Keep indulgences in check.
Aim for one or two glasses of wine on Friday night instead of three or four. And if you go out for burgers and fries on Saturday, choose something lighter to eat on Sunday.

That might mean mapping out your running or biking routes ahead of time, or it could mean chopping up carrots and cucumbers for healthy weekday snacks.
