Hot yoga. It’s a powerful thing

Mark and I went to a hot yoga class last night, at a yoga studio here in York. Our friend Craig invited us. I mean, I thought he was our friend. Now I am not so sure. He failed to mention that this was a hot yoga class. I have taken a few beginner yoga classes at Lotus Moon in York city. Those classes were easy going, the room was the perfect temperature, there was happy morning sunlight streaming through the windows, and they played spa music, burned incense, and talked in a soothing voice about thanking yourself for all the beautiful things you do and how cool you are that you came to yoga.

Hot yoga is nothing like that at all and Craig failed to mentally prepare me for what was about to happen. Pretty sure I will never forgive him for that. Ever.

I decided yoga is kind of a hipster retro thing, and since I was going to the yoga studio in the city it was even more hipster, and since I decided I was going to bike there, that made it way more hipster, so much so that I should get some kind of hipster award – like an antique typewriter I can bring with me to Starbucks instead of my laptop.

So you wanna run after you bike? Good luck with that

At 7 am morning, Mark ran five miles in the Shoehouse race. I slept. He came in 7th, with a time of 34 minutes, five seconds. Which is so much faster than I can do almost anything. He was not happy with that time because a woman beat him. I didn’t feel sorry for him.

After the race, we both biked 19 miles on our road bikes. I have been trying to increase my speed on my regular route, and since the start of the season I have gone from an average of 14.5 miles per hour to 16 miles per hour. I have done this by pedaling as fast as I can, until I feel like I might puke, and then pedaling even faster. I also think the fact that I have started running has helped.

Running my first 5k – with Foxy of course

I let Mark convince me into signing up for a 5k at Pinchot Park last week. I’ve never run a race before in my life – never actually been in any kind of race – biking or otherwise – in my adult life. I was a little nervous. I was going to run the 5k and Mark was going to run the 10k.

I knew if I was going to do it, I would have to bring Foxy, so I was relieved to find out that dogs were allowed.

I can’t believe I am admitting this

My boyfriend, Mark, and my good friends Jane and Craig are cyclists and runners. They are always trying to convince me to run, and I am always reminding them that I don’t run. What’s that joke? If you see me running, start running too, because it means a zombie is chasing me. So when Mark and I went hiking on the “goat trail” at Lake Redman yesterday, with Foxy the wonder dog, no one was more surprised than me when I started to run.

The Solidarity of Socks

A few weeks ago I came up with what I thought was a brilliant plan to defeat the defecting sock problem. I was going get rid of all my socks and buy 15 new pairs of socks that were all identical. This way, I would not have to look through a pile of laundry to find a matching sock – that we all know isn’t going to be there anyway.

Beautiful weather makes me happy, even when I’m in the Gut

Being the weather freak that I am, I knew Monday was going to be nice days beforehand, and arranged to take the day off from work. I had to get permission from Jess, my paralegal. Jess is the gatekeeper to my happiness and she’s pretty tough. But the idea of a warm, sunny day even put Jess in a good mood, and I was the lucky beneficiary.

If you find me upside down, please don’t take a photo

I am primarily a road biker.  I know some people think riding on the road is dangerous, but I feel very comfortable on the road; it’s paved and you just have to bike in a straight line and hope you … Continue reading

You go girl . . .

Last summer I attacked my fear of hills with a vengeance and biked up Copenhaffer Road. Both sides. Without walking my bike. But hills still scare me a little bit – I think they always will.

I had all these plans

When I fell asleep it was cold and rainy outside. I dreamed of warmer weather. Actually I just made that up; I have no idea what I dreamed about.
