AP Photo: USA players celebrate after their 6-1 rout of Finland in the Olympic semifinals
Well, the rematch we've all been waiting for.
USA vs. Canada. The team that many didn't expect to get a medal vs. the team that expects nothing less than gold.
USA had a rather effortless game, beating Finland, 6-1.
And what a start for the United States. The Americans scored all six goals in the first period, stunning the usually stellar Miikka Kiprusoff, who gave up four of the goals before being pulled.
My question: Why was he in even that long?
It seems international coaches are hesitant to pull their goalies. Evgeni Nabakov was pulled too late when the Russians were trounced by Canada. When it's win or die, there's no room for error. As bad as he looked, I would have yanked him after the second goal.
Canada's game was a little rougher.
The Canadians won, 3-2. After a three-goal lead, Canada barely held on. Roberto Luongo had to make a miracle save at the end of the game to keep the lead.
It's already being dubbed "the glove from above."
Be by the TV at 3 p.m. Sunday. And, if you're planning on heading out somewhere in York for the game, leave a comment here.
