I first learned about Doyle Farm Nursery in Lower Chanceford Township while reading a Weekly Record piece on planting to attract birds and butterflies to your garden.

Owner Jacquelin Doyle, whose company specializes in mail-order service for native plants, said then: “Without your native plants, you don’t have the birds and butterflies. For example, the native dogwood berries when the birds are migrating, and they depend on that as a food source.”

Although their business is mainly mail-order, Doyle's offers garden talks geared to planting for butterflies, birds and wildlife, Jacquelin said.

One is coming up on July 28, as part of the summer open house and plant sale. Jacquelin will lead a hands-on workshop, "Planting a meadow with landscaping plugs," starting at 11 a.m. that day in the nursery's open field.
