It wasn't until about two years ago that I learned that the nicely kept building in the "island" where Route 74 meets West Market Street was the York County Fire Museum.
I might take some time this weekend to check it out, because I just got a news release from the York County Heritage Trust (which operates the museum) saying that, in honor of the Pennsylvania State Fire Convention being held this week in York, the museum will be open an extra day and will offer free admission.
If you go: The museum, at 757 W. Market St. (the corner of Carlisle Avenue) will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Though admission is free, donations will be accepted.
