Meet Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

A different kind of honor
This news release was a good way to end my day Tuesday: State Rep. Ron Miller (R-Jacobus) has been named “Legislator of the Year” by the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. The award was given to him at the … Continue reading

Helping out, south of the border
(And, of course, since I do all things from a York County perspective, by south of the border I mean Harford County, Md.) In the southern York County edition of the Weekly Record, we often run items from Eden Mill … Continue reading

Stuffed peppers?
These are not LeAnne’s mom’s stuffed peppers, but they’re close. Does anyone know a restaurant where my friend LeAnne could order stuffed peppers in York County? Please comment. Her mother lives in Rhode Island. It is quite far for her … Continue reading

More nice Yorkers and good customer service
So, around Christmastime, I had posted about some nice people I encountered while out and about in York. This week, I had two more above-and-beyond niceness encounters that I also thought were worth mentioning. First, Bev at the Pizza Hut … Continue reading

Some history for Jim
In honor of fellow York County blogger Jim McClure and all our other local history bloggers, I thought I’d drop in with a post on York County online in the present – but focused on the county’s past. The Providence … Continue reading

If rambling on one topic wasn’t enough…
If you just can’t get enough of me rambling on things we say and do in York County and things I’m doing online, now you can find out about my other passion – math. Yep. I was a math major, … Continue reading

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it
I tell that to my 7-year-old all the time, because she believes that “I said sorry,” grumbled in a very nasty voice, is an OK apology. But it made me think of how sometimes it’s not the words or phrases … Continue reading

So are we idiotic, ironic or weird?
Check out this list of “The idiotic, the ironic, and the just plain weird” from 2007, courtesy of the News & Record in Greensboro, North Carolina. We made their list with this item: Oct. 6: Now this is pit-bull politics. … Continue reading
