Meet Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Chip commenting
Commenter Phyllis from Georgia got a little sad after reading the Mmm… free food post… She writes: “If Utz’s and Snyders can reach us in Columbus, Ga., why can’t Martin’s Chips? THIS IS ONE FOR KEN POTTER! We would love … Continue reading

You say to-MAY-to, I say to-MAH-to…
Filey’s School in Monaghan Township, an old one-room schoolhouse, went on to be used as a preschool. The Daily Record/Sunday News is putting together a book on one-room school memories and photos, and it’s available for order here. So here’s … Continue reading

Mmm, Mack’s!
It’s spring, ladies and gentlemen, and that means it’s time for York Countians to start making their weekly or more-than-weekly pilgrimages to their favorite local ice-cream parlors, right? One of my favorite’s, Mack’s on Route 74 in Dover Township, is … Continue reading
Want to really ‘talk Dutch?’
If you do, you’d be wilkommen to a Pennsylvania Dutch dialect class series for beginners that starts Saturday, April 12, and continues April 26 and May 3, 10 and 24 at Providence Place on Fox Run Road in Dover Township. … Continue reading

Restaurant rearranging
So, a story today says that the Starlite Diner was sold. And, its soon-to-be-former owner, Hristos “Chris” Kopanis, is the person who’s going to open up the Eagles Nest (again) on Mount Rose Avenue. Photo by Flickr user TZphotography, found … Continue reading
