Food pop quiz answer!

I had some neat guesses for yesterday's what's missing from the picnic quiz.

Joe (a new commenter - hi, Joe!) said "some sort of potato? i.e. chips?"
He gets credit, though it's not the magic answer. My photos didn't show the end of the table with several bags of Martin's Chips or the potato salad. So, he's right that those are staples that are missing.

Beth went a little more down-home. Her guesses? "Pepper slaw or chow-chow?"
Good guesses, and we didn't have any to start with, but it's not the amazing disappearing food.

Hubby, who knew the correct answer, but was just kidding, said there was no hogmaw.

But loyal reader Jo got it in one with her guess. What was it?

The deviled eggs!
They were gone before hubby got to them in line; he was quite sad. I didn't even notice they weren't there... not my kind of food, sorry! I stuck to the Rice Krispie treats.

But, if you do like deviled eggs, McCormick, where I stole the above photo from, has a pretty traditional recipe!

P.S. Next quiz challenge - if you're an old-time Yorker, like what other word do you pronounce "recipe" ??

Joan: The tip-off was you wrote "...they went faster than I could snap a photo!" They--meaning plurality of one thing--and I could not see any deviled eggs and what's any picnic without deviled eggs.

We old time Yorkers are known to call a recipe a "receipt."
I should know, because I'm an old time York gal through and through.
