Run away! Run away!

No, don't run away from this blog. It's a Monty Python and the Holy Grail quote.

But - while Monty Python and the Holy Grail IS the best movie ever, and while I'd love to talk about it ad nauseum - what I really want to do is draw your attention to my continued running (OK, jogging) exploits, in which (a) I can now run a mile straight without stopping, which I honestly had NEVER done before and (b) I've decided I need a concrete goal.

So what's the big-picture goal, now that it's not "get a mile without keeling over?"

Glad you asked.

I'm going to practice until I can enter and run the entire distance of a 5K race.

That's 3.1 miles.

Yes, most people could do that in their sleep. And no, I don't intend to win the race or, for that matter, even be at all "fast." In my head I have the idea of doing it in 30 minutes or less, which is probably a bit ambitious given my current skill level (zero) and my current trouble breathing (huge).

But, it's something to aim for. I don't even know WHAT 5K I would run yet, but I'll keep you posted if I come up with one. Wish me luck!

Hi Joni,
I'm so proud of you! You can do this. How's the basement problem? I love you. (I know that's not much help.)
Love, Weez
PS: I found some light-sensitive window candles! They come in electric and battery.

Totally would run one with you, and maybe in the future we can, but I'm not able to run until I get my OTHER knee fixed. I am addicted to 5Ks and I think you'd enjoy the fun of running with a lot of other people who are tackling their own goals.

I did my first 5K last year and it was great! Here's a list of all of the local (and some not local) races left in 2008: http://www.yorkroadraces.com/info_about_races.htm

Good luck!

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!
