Meet Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Chintzy, part II
This is some chintz-patterened paper. Ugly! You might remember I asked for input on chintzy – if you knew what it meant, and if you considered it a Yorkism. I asked that because a certain coworker of mine had never … Continue reading

The power of cards
You might remember that, before Christmas, I was asking people to send cards to Hannah Garman of Lititz. Well, as of Sunday, the family’s card count was up to 96,400!! Isn’t that amazing? You can see an updated total at … Continue reading

How I spent Christmas Day
You’ll like this. We opened presents on Christmas morning, ate some yummy scones made by my mom for breakfast, and then some of us … well, we were a little sleepy. That’s me and the cat, Huggles, apparently having had … Continue reading

A chintzy post
It really is going to be a chintzy post. Here’s the question: Do you know what chintzy means? And is it a Yorkism? (Again, take Yorkism to mean something that is said a lot here and not necessarily said commonly … Continue reading

Have a go at this one
I thought we were due for a couple of “light” posts… since I’m sure we all “ate heavy” over the holidays, right? This one comes from faithful reader Jo. She’d mentioned in before, but in her response to my discout … Continue reading

But just in case… MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Thanks for all your comments and e-mails this year. I love hearing from all of you, and I love how my family has started to keep up with our lives through the blog. It’s … Continue reading

The final Christmas tree
On Sunday, we put up the last of our Christmas trees – the one for my daughter’s room. Despite a setback in which we found out that last year’s lights wouldn’t light (and a run by Hubby to CVS to … Continue reading

Christmas fun with the girl
Last Friday, my daughter Sarah’s school had a big event where all the third-graders got to make and decorate a “gingerbread” (OK, graham cracker) house. I went to help her, and we had a lot of fun. She really gets … Continue reading

Have a minute and a stamp?
This is Hannah Garman. You might have heard about Hannah this Christmas… she’s been on TV, on several e-mail lists, etc. Hannah is 5 years old and was diagnosed in October with rare and aggressive cancerous brain tumor called glioblastoma … Continue reading

A tale of two lunches
So Hubby and I had to go to Weis today to mail a package… and while there, we decided to pick up lunch. Motivated by my awesome workout and fitness talk with a trainer last night, I opted for this: … Continue reading
