Meet Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Hubby’s Two Cents on Yard Sales and Books
Note from Joan: As I mentioned earlier, I’m trying to get some guest-bloggers to offer their perspectives on York County. Today’s post comes from my absolute favorite person in the county… Hubby! He went yard-sale shopping with me yesterday, and … Continue reading

The best way to spend a spring Saturday
You probably know by now that I love yard sales, and of course I recognize that it’s almost a must-do on spring and summer weekends in York County. So this morning, we loaded the whole family into the car and … Continue reading

Something new: A poll!
Thanks to the good example set by Pat over at The Southpaw, I’ve figured out how to use polls on the ol’ blog. If you don’t vote, though, I’ll feel silly. So please vote! Today’s poll is in honor of … Continue reading

Well, that’s depressing
Went to the library on Wednesday night and, among other good books I checked out, I picked up a copy of the book pictured here – “Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan,” which should be subtitled “What, almost nothing in savings? … Continue reading

New friends
Another pop quiz! Can you guess where I was in York County today, that I came upon this nice family? I’ll give you a hint, though you probably won’t need it – We had a nice lunch and did a … Continue reading

Support your local library
These library books show just a few of the things the library can help you do – beat debt, kill clutter, get in shape, and more. Those of you who’ve followed my blog since its start know that I’m usually … Continue reading

A most fetching post
Here’s one that Hubby pointed out to me while we were away for our anniversary last Wednesday and Thursday. (Photos from our trip to come; we saw some really gorgeous parts of the state!) Anyway, he said, “You know, when … Continue reading

Congratulations are in order!
You won’t see me or the family out and about in York County today, but for VERY good reason. My sister Carol is getting married today in New Jersey. I couldn’t be happier for her and her (well, at this … Continue reading

Pop quiz answer: Now with an extra winner!
Or, if you prefer, an “extry” winner, because extry – pronounced ex-tree – is the answer to my pop quiz from Thursday about how “extra” might be pronounced in York County and other rural areas. Joe put up a valiant … Continue reading

One year in York
Note from Joan: I asked one of the coolest people I know in the newsroom, Matt Kinnear – one of our assistant sports editors – to guest-blog for me today. Hopefully, this will be the first in a series of … Continue reading
