ABCs of York County: C winner, and vote for the best D

blogabcs.jpgSo the winner for the best C of York County is…
Chicken-corn soup! This one has made frequent appearances before on the blog. And it’s definitely a county classic! (A shoutout, also, to Central Market, which came in a close second.) The soup was suggested by frequent commenter and photo-submitter Dianne – thanks, Dianne!
Speaking of things that start with D – like Dianne – now it’s time to start voting for your favorite D and to post comments with suggestions for the best E for next week’s poll, if you haven’t already.

About Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town, and I hear every day from readers who love their towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

  1. John Loeper says:

how about Dogtown? West Yorkers know where it is.

My entry for the letter “e” is Elmwood Mansion.
The Elmwood House has long been one of York’s most interesting mansions.
It is reported to have an Underground Railroad past. Gray soldiers camped on its grounds during the Confederate occupation of York. Happenings there have spawned ghost stories.
It was long the home of one of York’s most prominent families — the Smalls.
Now, longtime resident there, Ann Small Niess, has authored a 146-page book detailing the house from the inside out. It’s available at Memorial Hospital’s gift shop.
