About this blog
My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

A reader recipe request
I had a question from reader Doris, who is looking for two recipes. If you have either of them, post a comment, please! First, she’d like a “ham ball” recipe. Second, she’s interested in a “chocolate crunch cake” recipe. Can … Continue reading

Life on other planets, as observed from Red Lion?
I love it when I find mentions of York County in other media online, and this one that I found recently is especially cool. This column by Roger Simon with Creators Syndicate mentions Red Lion in an unusual way. Simon … Continue reading

ABCs of York County: G winner, and vote for the best H
So the winner for the best G of York County is… Glatfelter! Funnily, no one suggested this, at least not that I’m aware of – I put it in because it comes up often in our reporting! You can read … Continue reading

So if you thought Gettysburg was bad…
If you thought it was bad how some people like to pronounce Gettysburg, then I’ve got another question for you! Thanks to commenter Dianne for pointing this Yorkism (or rather central Pennsylvania-ism) out. poll by twiigs.com

The perfect way to spend a wintery day
Sometimes, the best place in York County is right at home. The other night, Chris had to work. It was, of course, cold and miserable, so Sarah and I camped out at home. And by camped out, I really mean … Continue reading
