Do you remember Salvo’s?

Got this comment from reader Steve, who was responding to my memories of pizza and subs at Salvo’s in Dover.
Steve writes: “Growing up in the early-mid 90′s, Friday nights always consisted of a cheesesteak pizzaiolo from Salvo’s followed by watching the X-files at 9. I think the thing that made it was that they made bread and sauce fresh that morning/afternoon. The steak was just regular frozen wafer steak cooked on the grilltop with some thin-sliced white onions. When you brought it all together with cheese and rebaked it, it was out of this world. You could always tell when the lady was making one by the sound of her banging the metal spatula on the grilltop. I also remember the man’s accent being so thick, you could barely understand anything he said.”
Anyone else have any memories of Salvo’s to share? I remember going there as a little kid with my mom and dad after a long day tending market; it was a great way to get a quick dinner on our way home to the northern part of Dover Township.

We loved Salvo’s we probably went at least once a week. The pizza was great, and I loved the homemade sub rolls. He was always so friendly and enjoyed talking to you! I miss that place

Salvo’s….Man I miss that place! My wife and I and other members of the Dover Township Fire Police used to stop in there for something to eat after many fire calls. I loved talking with the owner, who freely shared some expert home wine making tips with me over the years. He was a good guy, I really liked him. The food was always great, no matter what you got. We were pretty fond of their cheese steak sandwiches! And, It was nice to have a place where they permitted a bring your own wine if you wished policy. I wish the family would have kept the business going in Dover, I hate eating at places where food comes in a bag or box with a clowns name all over it!

Salvo’s was the best. You could not beat the quality and their cheese steaks and pizza were the best in Dover. It was a nice place for families to eat.
