Yorkers elsewhere in the news: April 13, 2010 edition

A few links to round up for you today, on Yorkers elsewhere in the news!
Remember the Scrapple wine at Adams County Winery in Orrtanna? I recently got a news release that it received a gold medal in the 2010 Pennsylvania Wine Competition.
A Philadelphia Daily News obituary story examined the great contributions of the Rev. Christine Paules, a Red Lion Area High School graduate. The choir director of the church “Pastor Chris” led said the congregation “was shaped by her remarkable friendliness. Her voice will be sorely missed.”
A story in the Beaver County Times described students from York County, including Thomas McDermott, 16, of Seven Valleys, taking part in a meeting with a teacher from Italy through a PA Cyber school program.
And finally, on a funny note, the picture below was recently posted to the Capital Cichlid Association Forums. (No, this has nothing to do with fish.)
The funny part? One commenter on the forum, Lonny, who writes: “That has to be a picture of someone in York, Pa. People around here use scissors to trim the grass around their sidewalks. There was a guy who went to the emergency room awhile back that use a circular saw to trim around the sidewalk. …”
Only in York County!

About Joan Concilio

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town, and I hear every day from readers who love their towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!
