I shouldn’t be allowed to watch movies

When I watch movies, I can’t help but look for York County connections. That’s how I ended up with that Cameron Mitchell post from Hubby.

Well, the aforementioned Hubby and I are geeks. I don’t guess that’s a big shocker, right?

Specifically, we’re Star Trek geeks. And recently, when we watched Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which was made in 1991, I saw something at the end that made me just about shriek.

At the end of the credits? “Special thanks to Pfaltzgraff.” Why? Because they made all the china that was used on the ships Enterprise and Excelsior in the movie! And then, they made commemorative/replica versions of it that people could actually buy!

Check them out here and here.

As I think I’ve said, I was ridiculously excited. Especially because, in 1991, of course, Pfaltzgraff was totally a York-based company – in fact, how much more “Only in York County” could you get?

About Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town, and I hear every day from readers who love their towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Oh, wow! I have a few pieces of the ST Pfaltzgraff! It’s all packed away in the attic somewhere, so I hadn’t thought about it for years! I’ve got some coffee mugs, and what I think is a cookie jar, although it didn’t come with a lid (I got it at the outlet store in Williamsburg VA). I used it for awhile to store kitchen utensils. I was so proud of the fact that Pfaltzgraff from MY hometown was featured in Star Trek (I’ve always been a Trek geek!), that I told everyone I knew to pay special attention to the china when they went to see the film. People thought I was very odd–well, even more odd than usual. LOL!

my chick has a ton of pfaltzgraff items since she worked there from prototypes to that special little cup coaster they made for all the employees before kicking them out the door. approx 3 big grey tubs full. we’re going to at some point throw them up on some website for sale. they’re all made in the usa branded. we’ll start the bidding at $.03

I think instead of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon we could play 6 degrees of Pfaltzgraff. I can’t count how many members of my own family have worked there at one point in time.
