Hanover Tropics

Note from Joan: Pat, one of my copy editors who is also the mastermind behind The Southpaw, is my main source about all things Hanover. So when he told me about a recent “food find,” I told him he had to guest-blog for me!
Pat Abdalla pinch-hitting here.
I’ve lived in Hanover for 5 years now. It was a circuitous route that took me to the land of chips and pretzels. I was born in Scranton and had stopovers in State College and Sayre.
Once I got to Hanover, I fell in love with the place. People were genuine, the YMCA was always bustling, restaurants were open after 7 (try finding that luxury in Bradford County). It reminded me of some of the small communities near home – there are even some solid Texas hot weiner restaurants.
I’ve slowly checked off several Hanover experiences. Touring the Utz factory; touring the Snyders factory; dinner at Sheppard Mansion; eating too much chili at the Chili cookoff; meeting friends at KClingers, spending a day at Codorus State Park, enjoying the Halloween parade.
Arguing with Delone Disciples. Arguing with Delone Detractors.
Sure, a couple things have been left off the list, but the biggest missing item was Tropical Treat.
The restaurant was recommended by all. Every summer, I’d vow to take the tiny trek up Route 94.
Every summer went by without that promise being fulfilled.
Until now.
And let me say, Tropical Treat is a fantastic.
The prices are so low, a used-car dealer should be shouting at you as you drive up.
They didn’t skimp on the serving size.
Customer service was perfect.
The selection was much larger than I expected.
Oh, and how could we forget the best part: It tasted good.
We’ll be sure to head back soon, especially when we have guests.
Maybe we’ll see you there.
