It’s all fun and games in York County

Today’s post comes from some treasures found by Hubby at The York Emporium.

You might remember that around this time last year, I showed how York County was famous in a nationally sold board game – The Game of Life: Extreme Reality Edition.

Well, Hubby found some even more York-centric games in a recent trip to the Emporium, both circa the late ’80s or early ’90s. This first one seems to have been a fundraiser from the Dallastown-area Jaycees.

I’d never seen that one, though it looked kind of cool.

The other one he found, though, I was very familiar with, having played it many times with a good friend as a child.

I remember very little about it – maybe that it was kind of a combination of Life and Monopoly – but I remember it having local businesses you could visit. The box says it was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, but I don’t know if it was a fundraiser or what particular initiative drove it. I had been wondering who produced it, but amazingly, a couple of days after Hubby sent these photos, reader Fred commented on another post to say he had this game, produced by “Windsor Publications.”

Man, talk about a coincidence. Fred wrote, “Can anyone help me figure out more about this game? It’s basically an advertising gimmick for local business, but I’m a sucker for stuff like this.”

I’d love to hear more about these or other York County-based games as well. Any ideas? And anyone want to have a “game night” and play some??

Did they ever make Brogueopoly? Or perhaps Foustownoploy?
