Do you remember Pappy’s?

I love fun coincidences. So when I found two things that I thought were unrelated, but that matched up… whoa!
First, in early April, came a comment from Kim Anderson, who writes, “I remember another place was Pappy’s Pizza. They had a big window where you could watch them make pizza. Our family would go there for pizza. It was great! I think is was somewhere in East York? Does anyone else remember this? & where it was? Does anyone remember the hot dog stand inside Sears @ the old York County Shopping Center?”
Well, first of all, Kim, YES – we love Sears hot dogs! See previous posts here and here and here.
But regarding Pappy’s, the cool coincidence is that my husband recently bought for me a fun piece of ephemera – a Pappy’s menu!
I’m including it below in two images, which you can click to enlarge. The only thing I’ll note is that the phone number it listed is still a valid number, so I blurred that out – no need to give those poor people “pizza calls,” right?

So, yes, Kim, someone else DOES remember Pappy’s, and you can see from the image that we found you a location, off the Leader Heights exit of I-83, 2600 Keyway Drive in York Township.
My question is, isn’t that the same location that later became Mr. Bill’s Quarterdeck? I’m pretty sure it is. If so, does anyone know what years each of those restaurants were in business?

This is so funny. I remember Pappys. When I was little we lived on Fair Acres Drive in Leaders Heights. We used to eat there all the time. I liked it so much I called my grandfather Pappy. and yes, That location did become Mr. Bills.

I too remember Pappy’s and ate at Mr. Bill’s often. Such a shame that now the building has been torn down and is a vacant lot up for sale.

Who could forget Pappy’s? What I remember is the player piano that they had.

Pappy’s became Mr. Bill’s Quarterdeck in the early 1980′s. It was sold in 1999 and became Duets Chop House & Speakeasy. It became Leader Heights Diner in 2004.

I remember pappy’s also. We used to eat there after church on Sunday’s. I loved to go there and I also remember the player piano. What great memories.

I wish I had some memories of this place, it sounds fab! But alas, we never stopped in on any of our many trips up to visit the grandparents.
The prices listed are killing me! Oh, and I’d love to try pizza #22: ‘The Woiks (Your heart’s desire–the kitchen sink!)’ ROFL!!!

Pappy’s Pizza also hasd a place in East York, it was located right next door to the old Roller Way – where Wendy’s is now. I am pretty sure it was open before the one in Leader’s Heights. It became an Arby’s for a short time before becoming a Wendy’s.

Yes I too remember Pappy’s Pizza . We moved to that area in 1975 and Pappy’s was a new place then and new favorite!I still have that same menu somewhere! Also remember that piano and looking through that big window @ the people making pizzas.

There is a Pappy’s in Johnstown. Hadn’t been there for years, but I ate there this summer.

And, they still have the window where you can watch the pizza being made.
