Meet Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town. And, as a local editor, I hear every day how much you love your towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Come see me at the Keystone State Games!
Sorry for the lateness of today’s post. I’m working hard so that I can clear my work decks for a busy week and weekend out of the office. Tomorrow (or today, by the time many of you are reading this), … Continue reading

Mail call: More restaurants of the past from a loyal reader
I realize we’ve done a lot this week with both restaurants and memories, but don’t forget, I’m trying to clear out the ol’ inbox, so things might be slightly “out of balance” for a while. That said, I’m sure if … Continue reading

The Olde Tyme Carnival in West Manchester Township: It’s becoming a family tradition
I was originally hoping to write today’s blog post yesterday night, but instead, I looked at the calendar and realized I had something fun planned with my daughter, Sarah. Much like we did in 2009, we headed out to West … Continue reading

Yorkers around the internet: Top photos, a local foodie, history, ephemera and more
Just a couple of odds and ends today featuring Yorkers elsewhere on the internet. To kick it off, I just got started reading the Kirsten’s Cooking blog about a week ago. Kirsten is a York Countian and she loves local, … Continue reading

Ask Joan: Oh, the weather edition
Lots of rain and thunder hit us earlier today in West Manchester Township. Now, it’s as hot as ever. I remind myself frequently that I hate winter! The only truly bad part about the heat for us is the damage … Continue reading

I’m thrilled that Greg Halpin has been commenting since earlier this year on stores and restaurants of York County’s past. That list is ever-growing, so when I get notes like Greg’s, I try to add the missing businesses to our … Continue reading

A story of the Dover area’s history from a reader
Back in March of 2010, I shared a photo from longtime reader Jo Ott of the former Myers farmstead in Dover Township. Today, I’m going to do something I’ve wanted to do for a while (see: my recent unfortunate backlog) … Continue reading
