A quick mail call: Fun memories of Gregory’s

Today’s dip into the mailbag is regarding Gregory’s Menswear, which of course we’ve talked about several times!

This anonymous note from a reader in Springettsbury Township says, “In regards to Gregory’s Menswear: When you had a newborn baby they would send a tie to the father. Printed was – ‘it’s a girl,’ ‘it’s a boy.’ Mine was ‘it’s twins.’ You can imagine my husband with his chest puffed out as he took the elevator to the maternity floor. I’m not sure if it was for customers only?”

That is SUCH a fun story! I had no idea. Does anyone else have a similar Gregory’s tie – maybe still in your family’s possession?

About Joan

My name is Joan and I'm a lifelong Yorker. Throughout high school and college, I swore I was getting out of here as soon as possible. Now, a few years later, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. I love my town, and I hear every day from readers who love their towns, too. So please, connect with me and let's share what makes life in York County great. I'm here to help you enjoy this place as much as I do!

At Christmas time Gregorys would also put gift certificts inside a big red tree orniment and place it in a small box with the gregorys logo on it. It was a nice touch. my father got one every year and my mother would hord it until Gregorys had there big semi annual sale in Feburary , then buy stuff for my father to wear. Didn/t know about the neck tie thing for new fathers but that must have been cool. Here’s a store that’s been out of business for at least a quarter of a century and we are still talking about the little marketing things they did back in the day. That’s great.
