A night at the Revs game

| | Comments (1)

In what appears to be a rarity this season, the Revs won during a recent game that I went to with my daughter and husband. It was Buck-A-Book night, which meant that my junior voracious reader got to go on the field before the game for some festivities and even collect some of the Revs' autographs.

I was just thrilled with our great seats (field box) and the fact that my daughter also won a $50 savings bond in the home run drawing (that's when this photo was taken.) Plus, I love that you can see the YDR logo in the photo. Yeah, I'm that dorky.

Any other Revs fans out there?

A day at Pinchot

In honor of our third wedding anniversary this past Wednesday (yay!), my husband and I will be taking a short trip to the Delaware shore next week.

But, on anniversary day, I was working at my part-time job and he had to work in the late evening here at the paper, so we contented ourselves with a smaller excursion - a picnic lunch a la Subway and a hike around the lake at Pinchot Park.

It was a bit cold - and we got rained on a bit during the last third of our two-mile-or-so walk - but I did get one neat picture on my cameraphone... of a tree, carved up like crazy, with lots of other couples' initials. I'm a little too tree-friendly to have added to it, but I did think a photo was an appropriate anniversary commemorative!

(If you like this, you should check out our Carving Tree project that assistant features editor Sue Haller did a couple of years ago. It's an even more detailed look at one tree's graffiti.)

Finding a fair

If you love the York Fair, maybe you'd want to check out some other agricultural fairs and events around Pennsylvania.

State Rep. Dan Moul, R-Conewago Township, Adams County, has free copies of the 2008 Pennsylvania Fairs Guide to hand out, if you're interested. You can find it online at RepMoul.com, or visit his office at 33A W. Middle St., Gettysburg. Or, give the office a call at 334-3010.

P.S. - The alumni concert yesterday went GREAT! I'll write more on it tomorrow, complete with photos from my trusty photographer friend Jo!

Come see Joan!

In what I'm hoping will be the first in a series of "Come meet Joan" events this summer, I'd like to invite everyone to come see the Dover High School Alumni Band Concert from 3 to 4:45 p.m. this Sunday, May 18.

I will be the pink-and-white-haired alto saxophonist who looks immensely confused. I apologize in advance for any sour notes! I haven't done much work on the horn since graduating from college, though I did play in the jazz band all through school at YCP, following my Dover days.

Come check it out. It should be a good time, with the alumni playing alone and also playing some combined selections with the high school concert band.

And if you'd like to read more about my band director, George Bradshaw, and his band director, check out this 2006 story.
