Dover/West York: May 2008 Archives

Well, first of all, I can't say thanks enough to those who came out for the alumni band concert Sunday at Dover High.

And special thanks to my very own professional photographer, Jo, for taking pictures of me!!

I can't say enough about what fun it was to play the sax again. I'm considering taking some lessons from a friend of mine, who also played in the alumni concert (unlike me, he kept up with it and, in fact, teaches professionally.) I'm also considering joining the Columbia VFW Band, also directed by George Bradshaw (who you can see the back of above.)

I know there are lots of community bands around, but other than that, I'm not sure where else I would find to play. I'm certainly not good enough to play with, say, a club band.

At any rate, it was an amazing time and I'm really glad for Jo's photos so I have something to remember it by!

In what I'm hoping will be the first in a series of "Come meet Joan" events this summer, I'd like to invite everyone to come see the Dover High School Alumni Band Concert from 3 to 4:45 p.m. this Sunday, May 18.

I will be the pink-and-white-haired alto saxophonist who looks immensely confused. I apologize in advance for any sour notes! I haven't done much work on the horn since graduating from college, though I did play in the jazz band all through school at YCP, following my Dover days.

Come check it out. It should be a good time, with the alumni playing alone and also playing some combined selections with the high school concert band.
