Another in the list of many events going on this unseasonably nice weekend: a sweet potato dig in Shrewsbury Township.

The yummy veggies are good for your health, said Jack Osman, one of the co-owners of the Wellness Farm, which is hosting the dig. One medium baked sweet potato supplies more than twice the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin A, more than a third of the RDA for Vitamin C and about 10 percent of the RDA for iron. Sweet potatoes are also one of the few non-fat sources of Vitamin E, he said.

So if you're feeling some post-Fair letdown, maybe it's time to check out some other local fall festivals.

Lori Badders' "Neighborhood Notebook" this week features several, including one Saturday in New Freedom, another Saturday in Shrewsbury, and a couple of events Sept. 29, one in Windsor and another in Stewartstown.
