Joan,
We built a Texaco Service Station at 10th and Market st. in CampHill
in the 50′s and there was a Slug’s Roost within a short walking distance
from there and we ate lunch there when working at that job.
They had good food and resonable prices.

In your article about “Slugg’s Roost”, there was only one and it was a smorgasbord located in Camphill. My parents took us there as a special treat back in the 50′s. It was the only time I was able to load up on such things as mashed potatoes and frog legs.

I was also raised In Dallastown in the 60′s and 70′s. I remember the store at the West end of town as Devono’s. My mom, Janice Franklin used to walk me and my sister down there almost every night. Anyone in Dallastown remember her? She was a good person that passed away at a young age. Anyone remember US? If you have any personal memories you can email me at daseaks@hotmail.com. Now back to memories of Dallastown….leaving Devono’s store there was Reidel’s that sold X-mas trees every year. Then at the next corner was Kreig’s Plumbing. Then we lived on the opposite corner. Another good restaurant was Sal’s up near the square. They had the best chop steaks ever. I graduated with their daughter Libby. I don’t know if any of these people are still in the area or not. Another place was right at the square; I can’t remember the exact name–but I
think it was the Cut Rite with Cheesy. We had many fountain sodas there after the Dallastown Movies on the weekend. I also remember all the other businesses mentioned in the Sunday paper.

I enjoy your column very much.
I do not know what the note at top of Fulton,Mehring & Hauser Co.,but would like to ad that they were located at S. George St. before moving to north
Beaver St., my father was a contractor for many years and bought many things
from them,I went with him and remember best the time he bought me a new
Schwin Bicycle which I rode a lot.

Tales from the Tomb was a WSBA-TV show (more like the early 60′s) I worked at the TV station during this show ( it was a hoot) ran camera – photography and what-ever else needed to be done – some times I was on the show – along with many others – sometimes directed by Mike Houck – we had a great time doing LIVE TV Bob Liebhart
