Hope everyone here had a nice Turkey Day. We just got back from spending two days with family in southern New Jersey.
And you know what? I'm thankful I'm from York County!
We did port one local mainstay over there - filling balls! Or, if you must, stuffing balls. But whichever you prefer, it remains the case that my other family members never saw it shaped like that before. "See, everyone gets the crispy part this way!" one of my nieces pointed out.

Flashback: The Springettsbury Township Target got mobbed when the doors opened at 7 a.m. on Black Friday of 2000.
So I'm starting to notice the holiday sales ads are out in full force already, as of this Sunday's paper... While I'll be going Black Friday shopping this year (the first time in ages!), I also got a jump on my holiday shopping already. I'm a big fan of buying books at Ollie's for Christmas gifts, and that's worked out well so far. I also got my husband something during the big "pre-holiday" sales at the Galleria a couple of weekends ago.
Did you start shopping yet? Are you going out on Black Friday? Where?
Two facts:
1. When I left my desk, my paperclips looked like this:
2. When I came back, it appeared that all the neatly arranged paperclips on the right were in a heap. Once I went to pull them out (because you know I needed to rearrange them), I realized something frightening: I am now the owner of the office's longest paperclip chain.
I am wearing it as a necklace in defiance, and debating what I'm going to do when I find out who did this. Suggestions are welcome.
(On the bright side, I got my cast off my broken left wrist!)

Weirdly, it was stuck to my soda bottle, which I just dug out of the office fridge.
A few highlights:
From the "News about Joan" end of things: I have a large cast on my arm. Turns out, my wrist wasn't just sprained, but also broken.
From the Yorker end of things: I went to my first varsity football game of the season last night. We won! (Sorry, York Catholic fans.) It was incredibly cold. And I couldn't wear a glove on one hand, because of the cast mentioned above.
Meanwhile, from the online editor end of things: We've been busy here at the paper gearing up for Tuesday's election. We've got the Voters' Guide online now, and we'll have result highlights throughout the night on Tuesday. (Drop by and leave me comments that night; I'll be working the late shift to help bring you those results!)
