McLocal

| | Comments (4)

mcdonalds.jpgIt's been a while since I shared one of my Page-A-Day Web sites with you, but today's got me thinking in a local way.

It's a page of McDonald's "local adaptations" in its foreign locations. You know, the Greek Mac in a pita, the Indian Chicken Maharaja Mac, the McKebab in Isreal, the Candaian McLobster Roll, and even the German McFeast, which you can wash down with beer.

So I started thinking... what if our local McDonald's tried to immerse itself in our culture? Would we get the McScrapple Deluxe? The McPretzel, in which your burger is served on a pretzel roll?

C'mon, have fun with this. What are your suggestions?

From a funny e-mail making the rounds:

Think about it.

"I want a cake decorated. Yes, I'd like it to say 'Best wishes Suzanne.' Underneath that, 'We will miss you.'"

Oops. :)

OK, a break from the many food posts of late:

My favorite local band, The Jellybricks, who I wrote about back in July, just recently made a music video recently entirely using Rock Band 2. Here's the video:

The coolest part is, Rolling Stone's "Rock and Rolly Daily" blog calls them the first clever viral video of '09. (Read their piece for more on how the band synched Rock Band's images with their song.)

How cool is that?

One of my favorite things to do with Hubby is send funny Craigslist postings back and forth.

Well, he got me the best one on Saturday night.

"I am looking to get a dairy goat. Will perform weeks/months worth of farm work or math tutoring in exchange. I am an experienced tutor and work as a professional mathematician."

The scary part? He thought maybe it was me! (You'll remember that I was considering goat ownership last summer.)

It was not my post, but I wish it had been. That's an awesome idea. I'm a big fan of barter, and an even bigger fan of unusual barter combinations. (There was also one on Craigslist in which someone would trade homemade pet beds for a tattoo... also not me. Sorry. But if you have a goat and a tattoo for me, I might be willing to trade you for all the scrapple you can eat...)

HA!

Valentine's Day recap, part 1

Just had to show off what was waiting at work for me on Friday.

Didn't Hubby do a good job?

In addition to the flowers, we took a day trip Wednesday (photos from that to come), and he got me a box of chocolates and a great card.

And, the big gift... he got us tickets to see David Byrne at Radio City Music Hall on Feb. 28!! (Yes, this means you will have to read more about David in the coming weeks. I'm sorry. Sort of.)

Our Valentine's celebration with Sarah Girl was Saturday... photos of that to come later, too.

So, did any of you do anything special?

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you have a great day being with someone you love or doing something you love. Thank you all for "being mine" in faithful blog reading this year. It's great!

A random recipe

| | Comments (2)

So, when I wrote about pancakes, my friend Brett wanted to know a good waffle recipe in which each waffle didn't weigh a thousand pounds.

So I did what any self-respecting wife and mother would do. I asked my mother.

Here's her answer:

1 1/2 C. SIFTED FLOUR
2 EGGS, SEPARATED
1/2 TSP. SALT
1 CUP MILK
2 TSP. BAKING POWDER
4 TBSP. OIL OR MELTED BUTTER

Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. In a large bowl beat the egg yolks and add milk and shortening. Add flour mixture and beat until smooth. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter. Bake in hot waffle iron.

Mom says: "If necessary, tell him he can add more milk. The easier way is just to use Aunt Jemima Pancake mix and add more milk (or water) than called for. I make the batter rather thin for pancakes or waffles, so they're not so heavy."

I love her waffles and pancakes, so I think you should definitely try this out.

PS: Here is a photo of what I think waffles are best used as - a vehicle for ice cream.

New hair color

hair020709.jpg

Just done this morning. It's a bit orangey, but I think that'll die down a little bit. And, hey, I had purple and pink hair less than a year ago, so what's a little orange?

Other previous hair incarnations:

-- Me with longer brown hair

-- Me with medium-length blonde hair

-- Me with longish blonde and pink hair

-- Me with short blonde hair

Super Bowl

| | Comments (2)

Well, I'm a day late, but how about that Super Bowl?

I'm not a fan of either the Steelers or the Cardinals, but the close game and the last-minute awesome catch were pretty cool.

Who am I a fan of, you ask?

Go ahead, throw your tomatoes at me. I can take it.
