Welcome to Penn Township, home to large manufacturing plants like Snyder's of Hanover. It was also home to the county's third-highest percentage of foreign-born residents, at 2.9 percent of its 14,592 occupants.

Welcome to Carroll Township, which, at the time of the census, had the lowest percentage of unemployed workers in the county, with 0.7 percent of its 2,611 residents in the labor force were jobless.

Welcome to West Manheim Township. At the time of the 2000 Census, the county had the second-to-lowest percentages of both people who were divorced (4.1 percent of 3,894 adults) and families who were in poverty (0.8 percent of 1,442 families).

Welcome to East Prospect, founded in 1735. Notable there? At the time of the census, everyone in the borough was a U.S. native. There were only four municipalities in the county for which that was true; the others were Felton, Goldsboro and Lewisberry.

Welcome to York

In 2002, the Daily Record ran a series that profiled each of York County's 72 municipalities based on the Census 2000 information that was released that year.

Some Census numbers, like population estimates, might have changed since then, but the basics are the same, and I thought maybe people reading this blog would be interested in picking up some fun facts about their hometowns or the towns in the county they might not be as familiar with.

I'll post a "new" profile each week! We'll kick it off with York City, where, according to Census 2000, the median age was 31 and the average commute to work was 19.2 minutes.
