Dax, a police dog who worked with York Area Regional Police Department in York County, PA, died of natural causes April 30, York Township's fall newsletter reported.

Dax had served as a patrol/narcotics detection dog with Cpl. G. Kenneth Schollenberger, one of two K-9 officers in the department, since June 2001. Dax was credited with locating and apprehending several suspects who fled from the police, as well as assisting in multiple drug arrests.

The department is exploring the possibility of a grant to replace Dax.
