Dogs declared dangerous

Two pit bulls that mauled to death a 20-pound Chihuahua-terrier have been declared dangerous dogs.

The owner of the dogs, Jennifer Wilson, 48, of the 300 block of East Cottage Place, was also fined $300 for each dangerous dog, $100 for failure to confine her pit bulls and court costs by York County District Justice Ronald Haskell Jr. on Thursday.

The pit bulls — named Rosie and Raze — attacked Yoda on March 20 as she was walked on a leash by her owner Cecilia Ann Shirey of York.

The pit bulls started barking and got through a break in a fence, grabbing Yoda by the neck. Yoda died at the Community Animal Hospital after being rushed there in a police cruiser driven by Officer Ryan Anderson.

Now deemed dangerous under the state's Dog Law Act, the dogs must be muzzled when in public and the owner must carry a $50,000 liability insurance policy, said Mark McCartney, the city's animal enforcement officer.
