NYC area: Watch CBS news at 11 p.m. tonight

An undercover video has been taken, exposing what happens to the carriage horses of Central Park.

Many people are fighting for changes in how these animals are treated, an some will remember the horrible death just last month of a horse right near the park.

Some facts:

Central Park carriage horses have been dying in the street for years, some from exhaustion, some from panic. It is not uncommon for a horse to bolt into traffic, galloping down streets and into intersections.

The horses are made to work 14 hours a day.

The horses have to stand in the street (a very busy avenue filled with exhaust fumes and constant traffic).

Most of the horses have no shade, and none has protection from the elements. Unless the temperature is 90 degrees, they are out there. Do you know how hot it gets in Manhattan in summer? With the humidity, 80 degrees feels like 100 sometimes

The horses lack good access to water.

When the horses go to their stables, they must walk all the way downtown to cramped, filthy quarters.

Please contact CBS 2 News and thenk them for doing this expose. Maybe, finally, some changes will be made.

The horses should have stables in Central Park, and they should be restricted to the park on paths with NO cars or only during hours when the cars are not running through the park.
