Local dogs invited to DockDogs World Championship

hersheydock.jpgNestle, the Chocolate Labrador Retriever from Hanover, has been invited to the DockDogs World Championship for the third consecutive year.

Nestle is known for his 2005 gold medal performance at the Great Outdoor Games. Three years later, he remains competitive in Extreme Vertical, which is one of his qualified events. The 6-year-old owned by Angie Jones is currently ranked sixth in the world with an average height of 6'11.3".

Angie and Nestle have also qualified for the Iron Dog event.

DockDogs sanctions three events Big Air (long jump), Extreme Vertical (high jump) and Speed Retrieve, which is the new discipline introduced this year.

Speed Retrieve is a timed event that requires the dog to run, jump, then swim to a Dead Fowl Trainer that must be detached from the apparatus it's attached to. The quicker a dog can do this the better it is placed.

The Iron Dog event will test a dog's overall ability through their participation in all three disciplines. The team with the best score, combined ranking from all three events, will be the 2008 DockDogs World Champion and proven as the best all- around competitor in DockDogs. Nestle is currently the sixth ranked Iron Dog in the world.

Angie and Nestle are members of the Keystone DockDogs Club. They will be joined at World ChHampionship by two other club members. Tim Kline of New Cumberland will compete with his yellow Lab Bella in Speed Retrieve and Iron Dog, and in Speed Retrieve with his black Lab, Jasper. Eric Beauvais of Dillsburg earned an invite for Speed Retrieve with his chocolate Lab, Kori.

The DockDogs World Championship will be held July 24 to 27, in conjunction with the Lumberjack Days in Stillwater, Minnesota.
