Superbowl party

HorseNet Horse Rescue and Central Maryland F.O.O.L.S. are holding a Superbowl party Sunday, Feb. 4, at The Pastimes Cafe, Hampton Inn, 5311 Buckeystown Pike, Frederick, Md 21704. The fun starts at 5:30 P.M.

Equine stress-point clinic

An equine stress-point clinic will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at HorseNet Rescue in Mount Airy, MD.

Learn where horses' stress points are and how to release them. A workbook will be provided. There will be a bonus demonstration on equine energy balancing.

'Strikes for Strays'

Throw some "Strikes for Strays" and help the nonprofit animal rescue group Furry Friends Network chase the homeless blues away.

Furry Friends will host its fifth annual bowl-a-thon Sunday, Feb. 25, at Trindle Bowl, 4695 East Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA. All profits will be used to provide medical care for homeless and unwanted dogs and cats rescued by FFN.

"Strikes for Strays" begins at noon with registration and lunch, followed by bowling from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

To register as an individual or as a team (three to six members), log on to the FFN website at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com. Bowlers should register by Feb. 15 to guarantee a spot; the $40 registration fee will be waived for individuals who raise $100 or more in pledges.

Participants will be eligible for door prizes, raffles, and top fundraiser prizes donated by area businesses including Cumberland Golf Club, Gamut Theatre Group, Giant Foods, Hammer, Harrisburg Senators, Kong, Rite Aid, Scott's Grille, Trindle Bowling Center, Twin Ponds, Wal-Mart and Weis Markets.

Learn yoga, help Animal Rescue

Try a beginner yoga class and benefit Animal Rescue. CPAA offers vaccination clinic

Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will hold a vaccination clinic from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Invisible Fence Pet Solutions, 5255 E. Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Rabies and distemper vaccines will be $10 each, and microchipping will be $20, which does not include the registration fee. Vaccines and microchipping will be done by George Bates, D.V.M., Assistant Professor at Wilson College.

Cats must be in a secure crate and dogs on a short leash. In the event of snow or ice, the clinic will be rescheduled.

Wine & dine your Valentine

Join Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue Monday, Feb. 12, at the Chat-a-While Inn near Reading, PA, for an evening of wine tasting and dinner, followed by a live wine auction. A portion of each ticket prices will go directly to DVGRR, a nonprofit 501c(3) organization dedicated to providing new beginnings for displaced golden retrievers.

CPAA's Spay-ghetti dinner

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will be hold its all-you-can-eat “Spay-ghetti” fundraising dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the New Cumberland Fire Hall and plans to feed over 300 people.


CPAA is seeking 65 pounds of spaghetti and enough marinara sauce to feed the masses. Donations from restaurants or grocery stores, to offset the costs of this important fundraiser, will be graciously accepted. All proceeds from the event will benefit CPAA’s “De-Sex in the City” spay/neuter clinics held in Harrisburg, which are aimed at reducing unwanted litters of cats and dogs.

Farm animal forum

Sponsors sought for fashion event

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance is seeking sponsors for its fourth annual “Compassion with Fashion” fundraising event, which will be held Sunday, April 29, at the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill, PA.

The afternoon will include hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet luncheon, a fashion show, raffles, door prizes, music, and live and silent auctions. Talbot's will provide the fashions, and Ten Thousand Villages will provide the accessories.

Music will be provided by John Fay Jr., and Bob Rudy of WSOX 96.1 FM, will be the emcee.

In addition to human models, the fashion show will feature canine models, all of whom will be available for adoption through CPAA rescues and shelters. Proceeds from the event will go toward funding CPAA’s “DeSex in the City” spay/neuter program.

CPAA to host 'Spay-ghetti' dinner

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will host its third annual “Spay-ghetti” dinner Saturday, March 24 at the New Cumberland Fire Hall, 319 Fourth St., New Cumberland, PA.

The meal includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti with marinara sauce, meatballs (regular or vegetarian), rolls, butter, applesauce, coffee, lemonade, and iced tea.
