Cats left behind when owner lost house

| | Comments (0)

3some.jpgThese three kitties need to find a home ASAP. Their owners are losing their house (in Seven Valleys), and cannot take the cats with them.

The owners have already moved out of the house, but a neighbor has been feeding the cats. The house no longer has heat. The neighbor fears the cats will be dumped outside if they're not out of the house by Dec. 15.

The cats are believed to be between 6 months and 1 year old, and spayed/neutered. The woman who has been feeding the cats said they look like they're an appropriate weight in the photo, but it's because they're fluffed up for warmth in the the cold temperatures. She said they're really quite thin. She offered to make a substantial donation of food, litter, etc., to help with the cats' care, if someone can foster or adopt them.

If you can help, call (717)-229-2208 or e-mail ann@heavenlypawsshelter.com.

Ana needs room

| | Comments (0)

From Alex H.:
ana1126.jpgAs much as it pains me to do this, I have to. My recent move to a Hershey apartment just isn't fair to my dog, Ana. Ana is a 6-month-old purebred Alaskan Malamute. She is one of the most loving and helpful puppies I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

Ana currently weighs about 80 pounds, and will continue to grow until she is about a year old -- which is why having her in an apartment all day just isn't working -- and with my hours here at the station and a second job I have, it's no longer fair for me to keep her in a crate or alone by herself all day.

I will tell you though, that Malamutes originated as working dogs and need to be played with, walked, or run around a yard in order to just stay happy. So you can understand that my coming home every evening seeing her lying in a cage with sadness in her eyes is what makes me say this is just unfair to her.

Malamutes are one of the top choices for families with children -- don't let her size scare you away. Under all her fur there is a heart of gold. I have had the joy of having her as my best friend since she was only weeks old and have never had a dog as loyal as Ana.

She has been around adults and children her entire life and loves nothing more than seeing new faces.

In the coming weeks, she will be spayed and have all of her shots updated, along with a general examination.

If anyone is truly interested, has a yard that she can run around in, and can devote the time to her that she deserves, e-mail AlexHeider@cbs21.com.

Black beauty found in Littlestown

| | Comments (0)

littlestowncat.jpgIs this your cat? Or, would you like it to be?

This beautiful kitty showed up at a house in Littlestown on Halloween night. The cat is all black with just a few stray white hairs here and there, and is very sweet and well-behaved.

The finder is unsure if it's a male or female, but said it appears to be healthy, eats well, and has not been declawed.

Seems to have been an indoor cat, since it hasn't been fussing to go outside at all and it is very people friendly. It is an adult cat but seems to be pretty young. It is a good-sized cat, rather long and lean, with big paws.

littlestowncat2.jpgThe finder is hoping someone can take the cat in; they say it's a really great cat and deserves a better fate than being put down just because no one will adopt it.

For details, call Amy at (717) 359-9487.

Lovable Lacy seeks a home

| | Comments (0)

lacybeagle.jpgLacy has been participating in CPAA's HOPE (Hounds of Prison Education) Program since late August and loving every minute of it. But it's time for her to get the chance she deserves to live a happy life with a family of her own.

Lacy is a 9- year-old beagle mix and is just about as sweet as they come. Despite her sad and extremely difficult start to life, she still starts every day with hope and joy that spreads to everyone who has the pleasure of crossing paths with her.

Lacy never fails to offer a doggie kiss and a happily wagging tail to each inmate and staff member she passes during her daily routine. But, despite her outgoing personality and sweet demeanor, she has been living in rescue for years, overlooked time and time again.

In her time with the HOPE Program, Lacy has been an obedience star. She loves to learn, and has a ball at her weekly training classes.

Her handler is an "old dog" himself, and the two of them take great pride in their ability to teach each other new tricks! She has tried her paw at agility, mastering the tunnel and the jumps. She has so much fun, and she looks like a pup again when she's running the course.

Lacy's always been wonderful with her feline friends, and she's been practicing her canine manners during her training. Lacy would love a home with some kitty pals and perhaps an older, well-mannered canine companion.

Lacy has been in the HOPE Program for 10 weeks without a single application. It's unbelievable that a dog this sweet and loving would still be homeless, and we're hoping she won't have to spend yet another holiday season in limbo, wondering when her luck will change.

Lacy is available for adoption through Starfish to the Sea Animal Rescue and the HOPE program.

For details, please visit www.hopedogs.org or call (717) 379-2511.

Pit bulls abandoned at boarding facility

| | Comments (0)

gar-ike.jpgGar and Ike are about 8 months old. Their former owner left them at the boarder's and never returned for them. They are people-friendly and OK with most other dogs. Foster mom feels they should be adopted separately and wouldn't recommend a home where there are cats.

They are crate-trained, need a little work on housebreaking, and very playful. They are, of course, strong like that breed is.

When a visitor stopped to by, they barked at first but were by no means ferocious guard dogs. When she walked in the gate, they greeted her with wagging tails. They did jump up, but she said "Sit!" and they did. They have great potential to be wonderful pets and need someone willing to work with them now, while they're so young.

For details, e-mail robinp2@ptd.net.

Sweet Jindo dog needs home ASAP

| | Comments (0)

Kathleen lives in L.A. and her father recently passed away suddenly at his home in Harrisburg, PA. Kathleen is there now, frantically settling his affairs and trying to find a home for his sweet Jindo dog, Lucy.

Lucy has been with Kathleen's father her whole life, is about 8 or 9 years old, healthy and very sweet with people; however, she would do best in a home without other pets.

If you know anyone in Pennsylvania that can help re-home Lucy and prevent her from being taken to a shelter, PLEASE call Kathleen at (323) 447- 8997. She has few resources in PA and needs her dad's beloved dog re-homed immediately.

Here are some photos of Jindo dogs (these aren't Lucy, just an example of what Jindo dogs look like):

Sweet Sam needs a home

| | Comments (0)

sam06.jpgJulie is sick with a chronic illness and must move from her home within the next few weeks to get care. She cannot take her dog, Samantha, with her and has exhausted all of her options for finding Samantha a home.

Samantha is is a German shepherd mix that Julie's nephews found as a stray, near death. Julie nursed her back to health.

Samantha is about 3 years old, has diabetes requiring daily shots of insulin and has very poor eyesight. She is an intelligent, sweet, good-natured dog.

Samantha is good around children and other animals, including cats. She is submissive (i.e., not aggressive or territorial) and can be a little bit hesitant in new situations until she gets her bearings because of her poor eyesight.

This case is urgent. Samantha is currently in Tennessee, but her trip up here will be paid for.

For details, e-mail dan@dogguide.net.

Meet Paris

| | Comments (0)

parispit.jpgParis is a total sweetie and very smart. She has not had an accident in her crate since the first night with us and she is catching onto training very quickly. She already knows "sit" and "stay" after less than one week in her foster home!

Paris doesn't show any signs of aggression towards other animals. (Which isn't a surprise, she doesn't appear to have a mean bone in her body.) When she meets the 5-year-old male Staffordshire terrier and our two kitties in her foster home, she wags her tail and sniffs, but she quickly averts her attention back to whatever person is near. Paris likes other animals, but she is definitely more interested in people. Even when being walked her through the neighborhood, if other dogs come out to visit, Paris just politely says 'hi' and keeps walking.

Galaxy is lonely

| | Comments (0)

galaxy1.jpggalaxy.jpg

I’m so lonely; day after day, I just wait for someone to play with me, to love me, to take care of me. Would you like to play? Would you love me?

I’m very friendly and I really do like all other dogs. I grew up with my mother who passed away a few years ago, and I just haven’t been the same since. I have no health problems and no behavioral problems, so I won’t cost much -- just your time and attention.

galaxy2.jpgMy owner has a new job. His new schedule takes him away from home a lot, and now I’m alone quite a bit. He doesn’t like seeing me sad, and wants me to find a family that will love me as much as he does, but one that has time to spend with me. He wants me to be happy again.

If you think you have time to play, cuddle and love me, I’d sure like to come live with you. I’m through all the ‘puppy’ stuff, so there is no training needed.

galaxy3.jpgI’m 10 years old and I’m a good dog.

I promise I’ll be your best friend.

If you want me to be your friend, please contact Cindy at cldepalma58@comcast.net; she knows how to find me.

I hope I get to meet you soon,
Lots of kisses,

47696Stevie.jpgStevie is a lovely 5-year-old yellow Lab. Her previous owners felt that she "was too much work." Stevie seems overwhelmed by the shelter environment, but relaxes and comes out of her shell when she's outside. Stevie needs exercise, love and consistency in her life to thrive. She would be great for an active family that enjoys the outdoors as much as she does, or someone who is looking for a walking partner. She is housetrained and likes children and other dogs. Stevie's ID# is 47696.

47353Lady.jpgLady is an awesome 2-year-old German shepherd. Great girls like this usually get adopted pretty quickly, and she did ... twice. Lady seems to be having trouble finding the right owner. Her first adopter discovered that Lady had picked up a cold, and Lady was brought back to the shelter because the new owner didn't want to care for a sick dog. Lady got well and was adopted a second time. She was again brought back; this time because she needs some remedial work on housetraining. Animals, like humans, sometimes need help when they are sick, and sometimes need patience and guidance when they forget. Some humans would be very frustrated and confused by being bounced around like Lady has been, but she is a dog, and she has an amazing capacity to adapt, forgive and love. She needs a human with a matching willingness to be patient and loving with her. How about you? Visit her today! Her ID # is 47353.

47485Benson.jpgBenson is such a cutie! He is an adult Jack Russell terrier, and definitely a lap dog. He walks perfectly on a leash. He is also housetrained. Benson would love for yours to be his forever home. His ID# is 47485.

He is so fearful and overwhelmed by the shelter environment right now, that's what breaks your heart. Diesel is slowly coming out of his shell with the love and patience shelter staff and volunteers have been giving him. He wags his tail and will cover you with kisses to say thank you. Diesel's previous owner moved and couldn't keep him. He is housetrained and likes children and other dogs. Diesel also walks nicely on a leash and has a calm personality. Stop by the shelter and let him steal yours heart! His ID# is 47314.

47406Corter.jpgCorter is a wonderful older yellow Lab, who was found as a stray and his finder initially intended to keep him because of his great personality. However, Corter was turned over to the shelter when it was discovered that he has a tendency to escape from the yard when not directly supervised. He will need a dedicated owner who will keep him on a leash and take him for walks to release that "roaming" energy. Corter is a real sweetheart who asks for so little, but will give you so much love in return. Visit the shelter today to see if Corter can be your new love. His ID# is 47406.

'Stevie Wonder' needs you

| | Comments (0)

steviewonder.jpgThe Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance and Mostly Mutts would like to introduce you to a senior canine who is in search of a permanent “Wonder”ful home!

Stevie Wonder is a special needs Lhasa/Shih Tzu mix who is diabetic and needs insulin daily. Stevie is legally blind but can see a little out of his left eye. He was found wandering aimlessly in the road and was in shock.

He is now stable and doing quite well. He runs “with the pack” at the shelter and enjoys attention from people and going for walks. Stevie requires a family or person who is capable of giving him his insulin shots. He cannot navigate stairs.

Miracles do happen, don’t they? We are all hoping for one for this amazing little survivor. Stevie was one of the featured canine models in CPAA’s Compassion for Fashion Show in April of 2007. He certainly looks dashing in his tuxedo!

Please consider opening your heart and home to this fine, deserving fellow! Let Stevie Wonder become your best canine friend. For more information or to meet him, e-mail robinp2@evenlink.com or call Mostly Mutts at (570) 374-0330.

Mercedes is gentle and loving

| | Comments (0)

potw-mercedes.jpgAnimal Rescue's Pet of the Week is Mercedes, a 4½-year-old gorgeous girl with a great personality, gentle and loving.

At her former home, Mercedes was kept in a crate 23 hours a day, and she truly enjoys the freedom of exploring the back office at the shelter. She has become a greeter to the public and a constant companion to the office staff.

Mercedes will need an experienced owner who will guide her so that she does NOT develop separation anxiety.

Jordan seeks his own special person

| | Comments (0)

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA) and Furry Friends Network would like to introduce you to a very deserving and adoptable dog, who is appealing to the world -- “in his own words”:

ffn-jordan.jpgHi, I'm Jordan, a German shepherd mix who is looking for a place to permanently call home.

Although I don’t keep track of birthdays, I believe it’s true when they say I am about 4 years old. I live with a foster Mom who has her hands full with lots of other dogs. She has been kind enough to share some of her space with me until it is my turn to become someone’s special dog. I think about it every day, and keep my hopes high that we will meet soon.

Meanwhile, I am preparing for that special day. One of my friends comes to take me for car rides, another takes me out for walks. I absolutely LOVE riding in the car. Everyone laughs when they see me do my happy dance at the sound of “let’s get in the car!”

I love to learn, so when “sit”, “down” and “stay” were taught to me, I picked up on them quickly.

I hope someone will consider me as their only male dog. There are some times when I feel uncomfortable around other dogs. It confuses me, because other times I feel fine! I have shared space with cats and had fun with older children.

I am energetic and eager to please. If there is a place to nestle in front of the TV, I won’t disappoint you, affection is my middle name. I have heard people whisper that with this combination, I will make somebody very happy. And that is what I want to do, spend the rest of my years being devoted to the person who makes me theirs.

With paws and fingers crossed, Jordan and Mary (Trainer)

Furry Friends Network is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization – for more information on Jordan, visit www.furryfriendsnetwork.com and click on Adoptable Pets, or call Mary at (717) 268-1866.
