Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will hold a low-cost vaccine and microchipping clinic for cats and dogs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Appalachian Harley-Davidson, 6695 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA.
This is a first-come, first-served clinic. Vaccines offered are rabies, distemper and bordetella (kennel cough) for $10 each. AVID micro-chipping will be available for $25, which includes registration. Nail clipping, worming and flea treatment will also be available for a donation.
All services must be paid by cash or check only. Dogs should be on a short leash (no chains please) and cats in a secure pet carrier. Thanks to Dr. George Bates, Asst. Professor at Wilson College, Chambersburg, for making this clinic possible. NO BREEDERS WILL BE SERVICED AT CPAA CLINICS.

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will hold its general meeting 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Isaac's Restaurant in the West Shore Plaza, Lemoyne, PA.
Amy Kaunas, executive director of the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, will be the guest speaker at the meeting and will discuss Pennsylvania's animal cruelty laws.

York Area Pet Bird Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Adams Electric Co-op, 200 Trinity Road (Route 616), West Manchester Township.
An open house will be held 7 to 9 p.m. March 17 to give bird owners from York and surrounding areas a chance to see what the club is about and to learn more about pet birds. It will be a continuous learning environment with speakers and booth displays.

Celebrate the lives of companion animals with the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Appalachian Brewing Company, Camp Hill, PA.
CPAA is holding the public awareness/fundraising event in conjunction with "Spay Day USA 2009," an annual campaign of the Humane Society of the United States to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and feral cats.
Make plans to have dinner and drinks with celebrity bartenders such as Jen Shade of 105.7 The X, and Diane Grey of MIX 106.7, both at your service from 5 to 6 p.m. Bob Hauer, News Anchor/Reporter for WHP 580 Radio, will be the mixologist from 6 to 7 p.m. And last but not least, Sara Bozich, the Patriot News "Out With Sara" Columnist, will be tending bar from 7 to 8 p.m.
There will also be a special appearance by local singer/songwriter/guitarist and entertainer extraordinaire, Ken Uhlmann of the Cruise Control Duo, from 7 to 8 p.m.
ABC is featuring three drinks in honor of the event: the Greyhound, the Kitty Cat and the Dog Biscuit. The featured appetizers (both ABC original creations) will be "Puppy Poppers," served with salsa and ranch dressing, for just $7 and "Weimaraner Wings," 10 wings with a zesty barbecue-cheese sauce for $9. Thirty percent of the sales of these items will be donated to CPAA. Other specials will include $3 drafts and 25 percent off other appetizers from 5 to 8 p.m.
50/50 drawings will be held, and bar tips will be donated to CPAA.
Photos of adoptable CPAA animals who are seeking their forever homes will be on display. CPAA also encourages people to vote in the nationwide Humane Society's Spay Day pet photo contest by visiting and making a donation to www.hsus.org .
All proceeds from the event will help fund CPAA's spay/neuter programs, which proactively address pet overpopulation in the Central Pennsylvania area.

The photographic expedition, "Penguins of the Antarctic," by Los Angeles-based photographer and artist J.J. L'Heureux, opened Friday, Feb. 20, at The North Museum of Natural History & Science, 400 College Ave., Lancaster, PA.
With close to 120 photographs taken over a five-year period, Penguins of the Antarctic will introduce visitors to five different species of penguins that breed on the Continent of Antarctica and within the Antarctic Convergence.
The exhibit includes photographs of Adelie, Chinstrap, Emperor, Gentoo and King Penguins, and provides a breathtaking account of this virtually untouched landscape.
"Penguins of the Antarctic" will be at the North Museum until June 28. Admission to the museum is $7 for adults; $6 for 3- to 17-year-olds and seniors (65 and older). Planetarium shows are an additional $1.50 to the price of admission. The Museum is free for children younger than 3.
The Celtic Classic Dog Show will be March 12 to 15 at the York Expo Center.
The show will feature more than 7,000 award-winning show dogs from a variety of breeds.
The show will open with the Lancaster Kennel Club Pure Bred Dog Show on Thursday. York Kennel Club, will host Friday's show, followed by Delaware County Kennel Club Saturday and Sunday.
Dog show tours will be offered to the public on all four days, and Royal Canin dog food manufacturer will offer free "goodies" to visitors.
The Celtic Classic is an American Kennel Club-sanctioned event.
Admission is $5 per person; free for children younger than 10.

A bowl-a-rama to benefit the Humane Society of Harford County will be 3 to 6:30 p.m. March 28 at Forest Hill Lanes, One Maurice Drive, Forest Hill, Md.

Appalachian Air Canines and Carroll County Veterinary Clinic will present March Mayhem, a high-flying, disc-catching, canine competition, starting at noon Sunday, March 8, at the Carroll County Ag Center, 706 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster, MD.
Dogs will use flying discs to compete in distance and accuracy contests, timed events and freestyle performances.
The event is free and open to the public. Bring folding chairs for ringside seats. Your dogs are welcome, too.
There will be a small fee for dogs that are participating in the disc-catching action. Novices and newcomers are welcome; awards will be presented in both beginner and advanced divisions.

Turtles are complex creatures and so is their care. This presentation covers
the essential information regarding lighting, heating, housing, and environmental enrichment for turtles and tortoises.

In honor of pet dental month, Patton Veterinary Hospital, 425 E. Broadway, Red Lion, will host a seminar on how to care for pets' teeth at 7 p.m. Feb. 19.
The seminar will teach pet owners how to brush their pets' teeth, and the alternatives available for those feisty critters who do not allow brushing.
Learn how a professional dental cleaning and polishing can add years to your pets' lives.

The York Area Pet Bird Club's next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 17. This month's topic will be "Foraging for captive birds." Foraging, or looking for food, is what the majority of wild parrots spend their days doing. For captive birds, the instinct is there, but owners need to provide the stimulus so that our parrots may "forage" like their wild relatives.
Members and guests are encouraged to bring either a homemade or store-bought foraging toy to the meeting to share with other club members.
The YAPBC is a club for all species of captive birds, from the tiniest of finches to the largest macaws. Guests and prospective members are encouraged to attend two meetings before joining. Refreshments will be available, and it is a nonsmoking facility.
The YAPBC meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month in the meeting room of the Adams Co-op Electric building on State Route 616 South, just off of Route 30 West.
