All-Star Obedience, Agility & Rally Championships

The sixth All-Star Obedience, Agility & Rally Championships continue 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be a weave pole challenge featuring 60 poles.

There are a variety of vendors selling dog leashes, treats, toys and more.

The event is free and open to the public. Pets are prohibited unless they are competing in the event.

Attend 'Humane 101' in York, PA

The Humane Society of the United States will host a free "Humane 101" meeting 7 to 8 p.m. July 30 at the Yorktowne Hotel, 48 E. Market St., York, PA.

Participants will learn how to make a difference for animals in Pennsylvania.

This presentation is designed for individuals with a passion for animals and who want to help support public policies to help prevent cruelty. Effecting positive change for animals requires collective action by many thousands of animal supporters, and this training is being offered to help build an army of advocates.

HSUA will discuss basic techniques to encourage policy changes for citizen activists and provide information on some of the priority animal issues in Pennsylvania. Please take time to attend this meeting to support the ongoing efforts to protect the animals of Pennsylvania and to meet and network with other advocates for animals.

The seminar will equip you with the skills to campaign for animals at the local level. Topics covered will include composing effective materials for local decision-makers and media outlets, organizing your friends and acquaintances behind one goal, and overall campaign strategic planning.

The meeting will feature special guest speaker former State Senator Roy Afflerbach.

4-H Horse Show is Aug. 2

The York County 4-H Horse Show will be Aug. 2 at Columbia Riding Club in Columbia. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a performance by the Wellsville Boots and Saddles Drill team.

Exhibitors will compete throughout the day in Western, English, trail, and gymkhana classes.

The public is welcome to attend. No dogs, please.

Horse show in Columbia

The York County 4-H Horse Clubs will host an open youth benefit horse show Saturday, July 26, at Columbia Riding Club in Columbia, PA. Grooming and showmanship classes will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

The show will feature youth ages 8 to 18 competing in approximately 40 classes with 4-H members and nonmembers eligible to participate in Western, English, trail and gymkhana classes throughout the day.

Pennsylvania 4-H rules apply to all participants, and protective headgear is required for all mounted riders.

The public isn welcome to attend. No dogs, please.

Animal photography exhibit in NJ

rbari-photo.jpgJoseph Frazz, professional canine photographer and friend of Ramapo-Bergan Animal Refuge, will be exhibiting his work at the Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.

The exhibit opens with a gallery reception 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 20, and runs through Aug. 15.

A portion of the sales of Joe's book "Good Dog - a book of friends" will be donated to RBARI.

Pamper pets, help seniors

Join the staff of the Patton Veterinary Hospital for a pet wash 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at the veterinary hospital, 425 E. Broadway, Red Lion, PA.

Pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome. Patton Veterinary Hospital will be donating all proceeds from the pet wash to Red Lion Area Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program. The senior center will use the proceeds to continue to deliver hot and cold meals to homebound seniors.

Find your best friend at Color Me Mine

Color Me Mine and The Phoenix Rescue Group recently implemented a weekly adoption event titled "Dog Days of Summer."

Each Saturday, all summer, an adoptable dog will be showcased from 4 to 6 p.m. at Color Me Mine, 5110 Jonestown Road, Suite 1800, Colonial Commons Shopping Center, Harrisburg, PA.

If you already have a lovable, social pet, you are welcome to bring them in from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturdays to make paw prints on Color Me Mine pottery.

Wild horse and burro adoption

A wild horse and burro adoption, sponsored by U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Wild Horse and Burro Program, will be July 11 to 13 at Red Man Ranch & Arena, 359 Strawberry Road, New Freedom.

Preview will be 1 to 5 p.m. July 11; adoption 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12 (oral bid adoptions starts at 9:30 a.m. First come, first served. Sunday adoption 8 a.m. to noon July 13.
